Title: Senior Bookkeeper
Reports to: Financial Services Program Manager
Classification: Regular, non-exempt
Compensation: $25 to $28/hour
Senior Bookkeeper Position Description
This position serves as an intermediate level accountant under 501 Commons’ Financial Services program.
The Senior Bookkeeper will be responsible for providing bookkeeping and intermediate accounting
services to small and medium sized non-profits in the Puget Sound area as well as assisting with oversight
of Bookkeepers. The Senior Bookkeeper will maintain communication with clients, assign and distribute
work to Bookkeepers, and review the work of Bookkeepers prior to reporting to clients.
Essential Functions



















Delivers bookkeeping service consistent with the particular client engagement
Adheres to 501 Commons’ accounting and customer service standards
Knows and acts in a manner consistent with the program’s core values
Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form,
e-mail or in person
Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data
Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources
Engages in client accounting projects, consulting, and clean up
Attends regular team meetings
Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to
assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing,
managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer
needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, evaluation of customer satisfaction
Basic knowledge of laws, tax codes, government regulations, and agency rules
Acts as the 501 Commons’ central point of contact and representative with bookkeeping clients
Assigns and distributes workload to Bookkeepers, ensures work is completed accurately and within
deadlines
Ensures work is assigned, monitored and completed in an efficient and effective manner in part by
adhering to 501 Commons’ tools, technology, and systems
Reviews the work product of Bookkeepers to ensure completeness and accuracy
Works with Client Engagement Specialist to ensure timely delivery of work product to clients
Regularly reports to the Program Manager or Finance Director the status of client engagements
including but not limited to possible issues
Ensures data integrity and that client files are complete and current

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily.

functions. Evidence of the individual’s ability to be successful in this position would include the following:
 2-3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably with nonprofit organizations
 Expert knowledge of QuickBooks 2012 or later and Excel 2010 or later
 Experience managing and processing payroll including tax withholding and reporting
 Degree in accounting or equivalent experience
 Excellent interpersonal communications, decision making and problem solving skills
 1-2 years leading or managing a small team
 2+ years customer service experience
 Familiar with Microsoft Office including Outlook
 A history of stable employment, low absenteeism, and achievement in personal endeavors as well
as in the workplace
Work Environment/Physical Demands
This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office
equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets.
The physical demands required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job include:
talking and listening; standing; walking; sitting for extended lengths of time; keyboarding;
occasionally reaching and bending; and driving.
Expected Hours of Work
501 Commons’ days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Travel
A limited amount of travel within King County region is expected for this position.
