Camp Koala

Camp Koloa is a children’s bereavement camp held at the local YMCA camp each spring. This position will work with the director to prepare grants for funding, recruit and train volunteers, work on programming and participate in the camp weekend in May. This is ideal for someone thinking about starting their own non-profit in the future.

CALC (Carlisle Arts Learning Center)

CALC is dedicated to the promotion, advancement, and accessibility of the visual arts in the community. They have an exhibit gallery, member sales gallery, emerging artist gallery, and classroom and ceramic studio space used for children’s and youth classes as well as outreach programs to the community. Depending on the student’s interests and talents - the student could be asked to monitor the gallery, help with computer, database or social media tasks, help organize and hang exhibits, mentor younger students and help with classes, prepare for events and receptions, shadow the Gallery Coordinator or Exec. Director and act as assistant.

Carlisle CARES

Carlisle CARES provides shelter when no other shelter can be found for families and individuals in Carlisle. The student at CARES will be interacting with homeless populations while also assisting in supportive services, advocacy, and fundraising.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)

The mission of the CASA program is to assist the court in determining what is in the best interest of abused and/or neglected children whose cases are currently in the judicial system. The student will assist the CASA staff in supporting the work of volunteer advocates, public relations, trainings, and in office procedures.

Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement Program

Catholic Charities works with state and federal governments to resettle refugees, helping them adjust to new lives, a new culture and newfound freedom. We teach individuals with limited English to become economically and socially self-sufficient in their new homeland. The student would assist with refugee resettlement and cultural orientation as well as social media and traditional information releases. They would provide support to POWR program (Preparing to Welcome Refugees.) They would assist with logging phone calls from donors/volunteers; help with managing storage and organization of household and furniture donations; assist with record-keeping and office administration.

Provide support to ESL Director, staff and classes.

Central Pennsylvania Conservancy

The Conservancy’s mission is to protect natural resources in Central PA through easements, acquisitions, education and outreach. The student placed here would assist in administration duties, fundraising activities, outreach work and potentially assist in monitoring of conservation easement properties.

Cumberland Perry Drug and Alcohol Commission

CPDAC provides a continuum of prevention, early intervention, and treatment services for substance abuse and issues for local residents. The student will assist the substance prevention coordinator within the prevention unit to help assist with trainings and group meetings. Students can choose whether they want to work with adults in the

Substance Abuse Program, or with high school students in the Cumberland Youth Advisory Board.

Employment Skills Center

ESC empowers people through education and training to achieve job betterment and personal goals. This person will assist the staff with administrative duties, fundraisers, and other special projects.

Project SHARE

In response to God’s call to love one another, Project SHARE provides food, clothing, nutrition education and links to other community resources to empower people in need within the greater Carlisle Area. The students work in areas helping the staff with various projects including, volunteer training, programs, safety training, volunteer

pictures, timelines, etc. The student at SHARE will also work extensively with media relations to help with event planning, organizing, communication, and research.

Safe Harbour

Safe Harbour provides housing and supportive services for individuals and families to help them achieve independent living by increasing their basic life skills. The will be working in community relations and development at Safe Harbour helping with fundraising, social media, communications, media relations, community relations and special event planning.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army’s mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination. The student will assist the Case Manager in the transitional housing program, with childcare for kids in the homeless shelter, special projects to include Santa Shop, birthday parties, homework and reading time.

There will also be help with administrative duties as needed.

United Methodist Home for Children

The United Methodist Home for Children provides a safe and caring program for troubled/disadvantaged youth that includes individual, group, and family therapy. The student will assist the Recreation Coordinator in planning and conducting recreational activities to meet the various needs of the resident children. The student will also assist youth counselors and treatment team in providing guidance, counseling, and supervision of children in the UMBC cottage. (Student MUST be able to drive/meet Dickinson qualifications for driving).

United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County

The United Way initiates collaborative partnerships to effectively expand and leverage resources in the local community to meet human needs that are identified by the community. The student will help to organize projects and assist with ongoing projects related to community impact. The student will work with special events and public relations by helping to organize and plan projects while also supporting ongoing projects. The student will work on projects such as press releases, interviews, and outreach. The student will also work with the Women’s leadership council, Student Leadership Council,

YMCA

The YMCA is a movement committed to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The student will work with various programs and initiatives that will focus on youth oriented programming.

YWCA

YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The student will be assisting K-5 students with homework completion, leading group activities, and chaperoning trips.
