Lockheed Martin UK was established in 1999 and is comprised of six Business Units

AWE, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, Military Flying Training System, Combined Arms Tactical
Trainer, Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme, Hellfire, Scout SV, Warrior
Capability Sustainment Programme, JAVELIN, C-130. LMUK AmpthillLockheed Martin
UK – Ampthill currently employs around 900 employees and is the largest wholly owned
Lockheed Martin site in the UK. The Machine shop environment includes conventional
machining and numerous CNC 3,4 and 5 axis machining centres producing one offs
prototypes and small batch products from a large range of materials.The team consists
of a machining team leader and 6 machine technicians.
Specific Job Description:
The job will involve training in the following:












.Working within a machine shop environment
Programming 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machining centres
Setting and operating CNC multi-axis machines to produce R and D and production
component parts
Tool, fixture and machine setting to produce component parts
Working to specifications, procedures and engineering drawings
Inspection of produced parts using various measuring instruments and hand gauges
Ability to interpret CMM inspection results and make any relevant tool or work offset
changes
Support and input to the development of machining processes and tooling/fixture
design
Liaise with Engineering and tooling suppliers to improve tooling methods and design
Use problem solving techniques to solve machining and process related problems
Ability to prioritise work load in order to meet deliverable commitment timelines
Experience of 6 ‘S’ and lean manufacturing tools and techniques
Required Skills:
An interest in engineering either through experience or study.
A school leaver with GCSE grades A-C or A-levels to include Maths, English and
Science or a technical subject.
Standard Job Description:
Participates in a structured cooperative educational/work program between the company
and a college/university, and enrolled in an accredited degree program directly related to
skills required by the company. Performs assigned tasks in technical/engineering
disciplines e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Facilities Engineering,
Quality Engineering.
