Pretend City Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization designed as an interactive and hands-on museum.
Pretend City Children’s Museum provides programming, activities and learning opportunities that are not
typically offered in schools or readily accessible within the community.
Location: Pretend City Children’s Museum is located in Irvine, California
Position Concept:
We are currently recruiting for a Program Coordinator for the museum’s child development initiative, “Good to
Go from Head to Toe!” The Program Coordinator will help plan, execute, and finalize all activities and projects
relating to this initiative. This includes, but not limited to: meeting initiative goals and deadlines, staff training,
acquiring resources, researching and coordinating the efforts of museum staff, and building collaborative
community partnerships in order to deliver programs and services according to plan.
Essential Functions:
 Coordinate project development and implementation of Pretend City Good to Go From Head to Toe
initiative including monthly events
 Schedule classes, screenings, workshops and special events on an on-going basis; work closely with
Associate Director of Education and Marketing Department to incorporate into monthly museum
programming
 Create collateral material and associated communications documents
 Conduct regular staff trainings focusing on early child development
 Help acquire resources and participants needed to achieve and implement project goals
 Track project milestones and deliverables
 Build, develop, and grow any relationships or partnerships vital to the success of the project
 Ensure the institution’s mission, vision, and education philosophy is realized
 Assist in researching, designing, implementing and attending community outreach programs, events and
activities
 Other duties as assign
Essential Qualifications:
 Experience/Training/Education:
- Bachelors Degree in Education, Early Child Development, or related field
- Minimum 3 years experience in a related educational position
- Expertise in early childhood education, child development and learning methodologies
- Program experience within an informal learning environment

Desirable Experience/Training/Education:
- Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Working knowledge of children’s museums or other informal learning environments, program
development, program operations, evaluation and exhibit development
- Teaching experience with both adults and children
- Bilingual; fluency in Spanish
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
 Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential
 Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving
capabilities
 Ability to read communication styles of team members and partners who come from a broad spectrum
of disciplines
 Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating
 Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, funders staff,
community organizations
 Strong interpersonal skills
 A high level of creative thinking and self-motivation
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks
independently and meet schedules
 Ability to analyze alternative courses of action and lead negotiations to a positive resolution
 Able to maintain confidentiality
 Solid working knowledge and proficiency of current Internet technologies, Microsoft Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook and the Internet; experience with Microsoft Project is helpful
