Italian Constitution
Art. 1: “Italy is a democratic Republic founded on labour.
Sovereignty belongs to the people and is exercised by the
people in the forms and within the limits of the Constitution.”
Art. 4: “The Republic recognises the right of all citizens to
work and promotes those conditions which render this right
effective. Every citizen has the duty, according to personal
potential and individual choice, to perform an activity or a
function that contributes to the material or spiritual progress of
society.”
Work = lavoro. Lavoro comes from labor
(Latin) = fatigue, practical activity.
Root of labor = LABH  to catch, fig. to
take up, to obtain.
N.B. the word generally used by Latin
people to indicate work is negotium.
Worker = a person that gives his/her own work energies voluntary or in
exchange for a wage.
The Italian Constitution divides work in two types:
•
Unpaid work  It is voluntary work. It is a kind of work which
doesn’t request any sort of payment in return. Citizens do it just for
helping society and the people living in it.
•
Paid work  It is a work that implies a wage given in exchange for
professional service.
ILO (International Labour Organisation) is an American association
placed in Geneva that pursues some important aims: promote
workers’ rights, encourage dignity, increase social protection, make
the dialogue about work troubles stronger and stronger.
Work is also divided between:
• Employment: - paid holidays; - granted payment (statute of
workers and connected rights); - work contract that
guarantees a payment even in case of lay-off (unemployment
insurance); - financial and legal risk taken by the company
you work for.
•
Self-employment: - freedom of taking decisions on your own
without any order given by superiors; - satisfaction for
realising your own project without anybody else’s help; more and more money to earn, your wage isn’t fixed.
UNEMPLOYMENT
MENTAL UNEMPLOYMENT
PHYSICAL UNEMPLOYMENT
A sort of inactivity that hits young people
and that arises from the physical one. It
implies loss of freedom to dream and fright
towards difficult reasoning = MENTAL
PARALYSIS.
The situation of someone who doesn’t have a
job when they want it and is looking for it
according to his/her skills and previous
experiences.
What do governments do: Comenius,
Erasmus, Eures = European projects to
encourage
individual
mobility
and
employment across Europe.
•Financial aids: to be laid – off one year
implies one year of mobility;
What do governments do:
•Employment agencies: they help unemployed
people to find a new job according to their
skills = social safety valves
In Italian entrepreneur = imprenditore
Root = prendere (to catch)  in Latin =
laborare, comes from labor.
Root = LABH = afferrare (to catch).
Being self entrepreneurs = have a clear
idea of the future and realise it, catching it
with our own hands.
LOGO
Lamp = ideal future
Hand = possibility of realising the project
Light = realisation
The lamp isn’t switched on by any electric
source  we must be the energy to switch
of the our own ideas, to realise them.
