Boilerplate Organization Description:
Lake Superior College is a two-year, post-secondary institution offering more than 100 majors, programs
for transfer, continuing education, and customized training. Lake Superior College is an open-enrolment,
public education institution dedicated to academic excellence and committed to student success. The
College annually prepares 9,000 credit students for an associate’s degree, transfer to a four-year
institution, immediate entrance to the job market, upgraded career skills, training opportunities, or
enhanced life-long learning skills.
Lake Superior College was founded in 1995 when the Duluth Technical College and Duluth Community
College Center merged. The Lake Superior College campus was built in 1968 and has been expanded to
include an Academic and Student Services building, a remodeled Student Life Center and a brand new
Health and Sciences Center. Off campus the College has built the Emergency Response Training Center,
which provides world-class training for emergency response professionals, including firefighters and
emergency medical technicians. The Center for Advanced Aviation Center is housed at the Duluth
International Airport and offers a complete line of full and part time professional and custom pilot
training programs for airplanes and helicopters, combining the breadth and flexibility of a local airport
flight school and a college aviation degree program.
A long-time provider of online education, the college operates one of the largest and most
comprehensive online instructional programs in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system,
serving more than 2,200 students and offering more than 165 course sections online. More than 25
percent of the college’s credits are provided online. Online programs include dialysis patient care,
accounting, business administration, network administration and an Associate in Arts transfer degree.
Lake Superior College provides high quality, affordable higher education that benefits diverse learners,
employers, and the community. The College's academic, technical, continuing education, and workforce
development offerings prepare learners for a rapidly changing global community. Our services support
learning, and our partnerships connect the college and its learners to a broader spectrum of community
life. Lake Superior College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central
Association.
