Describe the “sound” of the station format. What types of music does it play (if
applicable)? What types of “shows” does it play? Does it use station jingles or
bumpers? Is it effectively presenting its format?
The type of music on this radio station plays R&B, Hip Hop, and Urban. They have
different rap battles, the Rickey Smile Morning Show, and different talk segments. It
doesn’t really have a station jingle, but it does effectively present their format.
How is a typical hour formatted? Are their commercials, station breaks,
news/weather segments, songs, etc.?
When I first started listening to the station it was playing a song by August Alsina. There
are usually commercial breaks, and when I listen to it, I’ll hear a weather and traffic
segment maybe once, but a lot of music plays.
What type of audience is the station trying to reach? Do you think the programming
is effective for the intended audience?
The target audience the radio station is reaching is the Urban demographic. Yes I think
the program is reaching its intended audience.
What kinds of commercials does the station play? Are the products/services
advertised marketed toward a specific audience? Does the audience of the
commercials match the targeted audience of the format? The types of commercials
they have are restaurants, insurance, car sales, hair weave sale commercials and local
parties and concerts. I think the commercials are marketed towards the urban community,
and it matches the target audience of the format.
Is there (are there) DJs? What do they sound like? What types of things to they say/
What do they discuss? How do they try to connect to the audience?
This radio station has Radio Personalities and DJs. They sound cool, they sound like
normal DJ’s and radio personalities. The DJ’s discuss the same thing the radio
personalities do if they are on the same segment together, sometimes they don’t say
anything. They connect to the audience by playing the music we want to hear.
Does the station format change during the day? If so, what formats does it play?
The station format does not change during the day.
