Yes! I want to be a Passionista!
So what are we about? In short, the Go Red Passion Committee members serve as the face
of Go Red For Women® in metro Detroit by creating, executing and assisting with Go Red
For Women awareness opportunities and activities throughout the year. Passionistas
support heart survivors, push for heart-healthy legislation, coordinate our fall Premiere
Party, get companies to Go Red in February, educate Macy’s employees, or talk us up in
their online networks. This is an ongoing group with focused teams that meet at various
times throughout the year.
Just so you know up front: This is not an advisory group. Or, as I sometimes like to
illustrate, the Passion Committee is not a tour bus. We do not have one driver who’s
responsible for hauling a load of sightseers from one destination to another. Think of the
Passion Committee instead as a convoy. We have a lead vehicle, but we are all drivers in
this fight against heart disease in women – each responsible for carrying a part of the
mission. But, of course, a willingness to co-lead is always welcome.
Following this page is a description of the Go Red Passion Committee and its expectations
as well as a calendar for the coming year. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves to help us
end heart disease and stroke in our lifetime, please complete the attached commitment
form and return it to me by email or fax (248.936.5784). Every Passionista must be willing
to support the check-marked items in order to remain on the committee – that’s how we
get the work done.
That said, the Go Red Passion Committee meets bi-monthly at the American Heart
Association office from 12-1:30 p.m. Members can join the meeting in person (for lunch) or
by phone at 1-866-459-4199, passcode 8753292. If you have questions about the
committee or Go Red specifically, be sure you’re at our May and September meetings where
a portion of the time will be dedicated to an orientation/refresher for new and current
Passionistas.

support the mission of the American Heart Association, the American Stroke Association and the Go
Red Passion Committee. I understand that this is not an advisory group; it is a diverse, interactive,
action-based collective of dedicated individuals who agree to focus on developing and
implementing solutions that will help our community achieve optimum heart health. To that end, I
accept the following:

I will attend at least five of the scheduled full committee meetings prepared and ready to
contribute cheerfully and meaningfully. (The full committee meets bi-monthly.)

I recognize the Go Red Passion Committee makes decisions as a team – by a majority vote – and
should be supported by all committee members. In addition,
 I will respect the right of other committee members to have opinions and ideas that differ.
 I will announce conflicts of interest before committee action is taken.

I will fulfill my commitment to help ensure the Go Red Passion Committee achieves its goals by
supporting the following activities:
 Signing up to be an advocate at www.yourethecure.org
 Helping with at least one aspect of the Go Red Premiere Party
 Getting at least one building to Go Red during February
 Spreading awareness of heart health and stroke prevention with my personal, professional and
social networks
 Stepping up to volunteer for other activities when I am able and available
