Cecilia Mendez March 18, 2010 2nd Period What Is Beauty? Nature is Beauty. The fact that you are natural and don't let no physical beauty get to you, makes you unique and beautiful. You see a magazine and there is Beyoncé, Rihanna, or Kim Kardashian along with many other famous celebrities. You wonder "What do they do to themselves to look so perfect?" They got the sculptural body, pumped lips, nice eye color, perfect tan, the basics you will always see on any magazine or advertisements. When in reality they don't look like what you see on magazines or ads. They go through many hours of makeup and hair styling, and days on editing an image. Just to get "The Perfect Look," everyone wants."The Perfect Look," that has many teenagers, uncomfortable with their body, that think they are either to ugly or too fat and go through depression, become anorexic or they even consider suicide just because they are not as beautiful as their favorite artist, actress, model, etc. One of Coco Chanel's famous quote is "Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future." Those who are stout, have high stamina, are natural and unique are considered to be Beauty itself. I found an interesting poem “Own You Own Look!”. The poem explains that beauty should not be judged by having the perfect figure from head to toe, or looking like a celebrity or super model. “Beauty comes from the inside..The kind that comes from someone who is in control of her own destiny.” The author’s purpose is to have all teens understand that originality means a lot you don’t have to spend a million dollars to be beautiful. Everyone is beautiful by simply being different. The Dove Self Esteem Fund also support Natural Beauty and they did some research and stated their statistics on an article "Real Girls, Real Pressure" (June 2008), in this article they analyze the unhappiness of young girls who have low self-esteem because they are not attractive as those on television, magazines or advertisements. They support their statement because on the report itself it provides statistics showing the percentage of girls who are not happy with themselves. Their purpose (omit) is to have both women and men realize that no one is perfect, what they see on magazines usually is edited first in Photoshop and takes days to get the last results. Their statistics are clear and show the teenagers that the low self-esteem is raising and we can make a change. "Be the change you want to see in the world"-(Mahatma Gandhi) Dan Eden wrote the article "What Makes Us Attractive" where he builds a strong argument. Eden mentions that attractive people tend to make more money and those who seek beauty spend one-third of their income. Eden supports his argument by stating statistics found by Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, and their research was "Beautiful people tend to earn 5 percent more an hour than their less comely colleagues." The author’s purpose is that everyone should be treated equally and shouldn't be judged by the physical. "Defining what determines attractiveness is not always easy." This article is so no one can let themselves be manipulated just because of what they look like. "Is beauty a personal phenomenon?" Beauty is being able to control your own destiny. God made us look like this and it is our job to live happy with our appearance. Considering plastic or cosmetic surgery is just another way of saying, you are unhappy with God's creation. Don't hide your true self be happy with who you are. Being unique, happy and natural are the only requirements for true Beauty. CITATIONS: - Chanel, Coco. "Coco Chanel Quotes". Quotes.
