A major component of this course will be desktop budget management using Excel Spreadsheets. In addition students will participate in class discussions, and activities which will increase their knowledge and skills of the effective components of successful character, citizenship and sportsmanship to share with their students, coaches, parents and communities. 8:00 AM Saturday $100.00 _____ LTC 790 Athletic Administration: Leadership Training Instructional Methods and Techniques This course is designed to provide instructors with an awareness of the expectations that are placed upon them in presenting LTP courses. The course examines teaching and learning styles and provides strategies for instructors to use in teaching LTP courses. It provides for interaction between current national faculty instructors and potential LTP instructors in the exchange of ideas used in the successful implementation of courses. To instruct any LTP course, one must complete LTC 501, LTC 790 and the course that one will be instructing. Visitors to a school often form an opinion of the school and community based on first impressions of the appearance of the facilities. This course discusses the power of curb appeal and how communication can enhance curb appeal. Strategies and methods are provided for maintaining structures and facilities as well as a comprehensive and thorough study of “Best Turf Field Maintenance Practices” as well as “Best Operational Management Practices.” 1:00 PM Saturday $100.00 _______ LTC 707 Athletic Administration: Assessment of Interscholastic Athletic Programs and Personnel This course examines a philosophic rationale and a variety of methods that may be used to assess athletic programs and personnel. The goals of this program are to improve the performance of athletic coaches and other athletic department personnel, improvement of program operations and improvement of satisfaction among players, parents and employees. A central theme is to encourage assessment of needs, interests and opinions that can enhance goal setting and planning priorities. The course will examine a philosophic rational for assessment in high school sport programs, discuss basic statistical concepts, focus on Affective Assessment, describe various Personnel Assessment methods and concepts and details various Program Assessment techniques. 1:00 PM Saturday $100.00 ______ LTC 719 Athletic Administration: Leadership, Management/Supervision and Decision Making Concepts, Methods and Applications This course examines relevant strategies and principles that can be utilized to enhance the skills of athletic administrators in the areas of leadership, management and decision-making. Learning begins with an introduction to the differences between leadership, management and supervision and continues with an in-depth investigation of each. Through the analysis of specific leadership and management characteristics and techniques, students will be able to apply specific skills to improve their leadership effectiveness. Concepts and techniques of decision making strategies are discussed and demonstrated through various in-class exercises. The one semester graduate hour course fee is $65 and separate checks made out to North Dakota State University or a credit card will be required. . Conference Information General Conference Information The NDIAAA 2013 Spring Conference will be held on April 6-8at the Doublewood Motel in Fargo, ND. The registration fee includes: breakout sessions, general meetings, registration gifts, continental breakfasts, and refreshments during breaks, Sunday Brunch, conference social, and the awards banquet dinner. Lunch Monday will be on your own. Once again we want to acknowledge that Sanford Health and Sanford Orthopedic Sports Medicine has become a corporate partner with the NDIAAA. This partnership will provide the opportunity to our membership to have quality speakers, presentations and activities at our conference. We have made a concerted effort to provide courses in the 500, 600 & 700 levels which will assist members in meeting requirements for the CAA and CMAA levels of certification. The courses and their description can be found on the registration form. A graduate credit is also available through North Dakota State University and credit registration will be covered at the first general session. Please note this information on the registration form. The theme for Sunday’s presentations will focus on Student athlete psychology. The highlight of the conference will be the presentation by nationally recognized sports. Gregory A. Dale, Ph.D. is a Professor of Sport Psychology and Sport Ethics at Duke University. He is also Director of the Sport Psychology and Leadership Programs for Duke Athletics. In addition to his work with Duke Athletes and coaches, Greg consults with numerous college and professional athletes and teams. He also consults with corporations around the world including The World Bank, Habitat for Humanity International, Airports Council International, Pfizer and SKANSKA International. Greg has written four books related to leadership and performance. In addition, he has written scripts and served as the “expert” on a series of thirteen videos for coaches, athletes and parents. Greg has been featured on Good Morning America, ESPN, MSNBC, Court TV and numerous national radio programs. He is also a member of the Sport Psychology Staff for USA Track and Field. We were fortunate to have Dr. Dale present at the NDIAAA Conference several years ago. His book “The seven secrets of successful coaching” has been a valuable resource to many of our coaches and athletic directors. Sanford Sports Medicines will provide a enlightening presentation as our first session Sunday afternoon. Daktronics, one of our corporate sponsors will review electronic scoring systems and shot clock issues. The Regional meetings will conclude Sunday’s meetings with the discussion about coaches’ permits and other topics Sunday night our organization will recognize outstanding colleagues, including identifying the Athletic Administrator’s of the year, introduce national awards recipients, announcing the nominees for national Distinguished Service and Citation awards, the state award of merit winner and the induction to the NDIAAA Hall of Fame. The banquet will conclude with the introduction of the 2013-14 NDIAAA president and the awarding of the out going president plaque. Those attending the banquet will be eligible for the $500 door prize and a few other nice door prizes. Please plan to attend. Monday’s general session will provide attendees with the opportunity to select two breakout sessions from four topics: “emergency planning”, electronic devices and procedures, Certification and student surveys. The final general session representatives from the North Dakota High School Activities Association will provide updates and information to the NDIAAA membership.
