Health Factors around the World Consider the question “How can we be healthy?” from a global perspective. How do we as Americans compare with others in our level of health? Are we a healthier or less healthy country than others in Europe, Africa, Asia, around the world? What recommendations can you make for our country and others to help us all become more healthy? PROCESS: 1. Use CultureGrams to create a comparison table between another country (chosen in class) and the United States. Go to http://mhs.wcpss.net click on Media Center scroll down to the map on the left side of the screen Click on the area of the world you are researching. To access the charts, click on “Graphs and Tables” at the top of the page Select “Comparison Table” and/or “Comparison Graph” and follow the directions on the screen to create a comparison of the United States and your chosen country. You must include a health data point of your choice plus caloric consumption, life expectancy, and survival probability. NOTE: You will need to include a graph or table in your presentation. You can use the “Print Screen” button to take screen shots of the graphs and then save them to a Word document Hold the Ctrl key down and click “Print Screen.” Then open a Word document and click Paste to insert the graph in to the Word document. If you use a table instead of a graph, you can select “Download table as CSV file” and then open the file in Excel. From Excel you can make different charts and graphs. 2. Use CultureGrams to continue researching health factors in the United States and your chosen country. Complete the notes organizer as you research. Be sure to credit all sources! If you only use Culture Grams you can click on “Generate Citation” when reading about your country and you will have an MLA citation to use. If you use other sources, create an MLA citation (NoodleTools will work great here!) for each source used and note the source on your organizer. 3. You will present this health information to your class using Prezi, Glogster or by creating a movie/documentary about the health factors in each country (U.S. and your country of choice) and with your recommendations for better health in each country. You must show your sources of information in the presentation.
