JBLM BREWFEST 2011

The JBLM Brewfest is a AHA/BJCP sanctioned competition.
The 2011 Beer Judge Certification Program Guidelines will be used for
this competition.
Event Activities:
•
Registration begins 1 February 2011 and ends 12 March 2011
•
Judging will take place 19 March 2011
•
The JBLM Brewfest will be held on 25 March 2011 starting at
1630hrs, and will include homebrew and local commercial beer tasting, food,
door prizes, and the announcement of the homebrew competition category
winners.
•
Ticket price for event is $10 for Club Members and $15 for
Nonmembers.
•
This event is intended to help encourage interest in home brewing
for non-brewers and to make connections between current brewers. We are
asking each competitor of the homebrew competition to provide sampling of the
beers which they enter into the competition (1-2 oz samples) at the JBLM
Brewfest on March 25th.
•
Those providing samples will attend the event free of charge.
Homebrew Competition Rules and Entry Information
A. ELIGIBILITY AND CATEGORIES
1. Entries will be accepted in the following categories as recognized by the 2011 BJCP
Style Guidelines.
American Pale Ale
India Pale Ale
Stout
Porter
Lagers
2. Entrants planning on attending the 2011 Brewfest events on 25 March must gain their
own access to JBLM McChord via an eligible sponsor who has prior base access.
3. Entries must be referred to by Category NUMBER and Subcategory LETTER.

descriptions.
4. Commercially brewed beers, ciders and meads are ineligible.
B. HOW TO ENTER
1. Registration will begin 1 February, 2011, and may be either mailed or delivered to the
JBLM McChord Field Club & Community Center.
2. Entry Fees: $5.00 for each entry; a check or cash is acceptable. All checks should be
made payable to the McChord Field Community Center. Attach entry fee to registration
form(s) and place inside package. Any entries not accompanied by an entry fee will not
be judged.
3. Entry requirements:
-Provide TWO BOTTLES (preferably three bottles if you feel you have enough for
each entry). Bottles must be 10- to 12-ounce green or brown glass and clean and free
of any labels (inked, paper, or otherwise). Bottles with permanent, painted-on labels
are prohibited. Entrants are encouraged to use brown, long-neck returnable bottles
for extra protection from light and breakage.
NOTE: Grolsch-type swing tops are not acceptable. Soft drink or other printed
crown caps are acceptable if they are blacked-out with a black marking pen to
assure anonymity in judging. Each competitor is invited to return for the awards
ceremony at Brewfest on 25 March at the JBLM McChord Club & Community
Center starting at 1630 to provide 1-2 oz samples of the beers they enter into the
competition. Competitors may also provide samples of home brews not entered into
the competition. Those providing samples will be invited to attend the event free of
charge.
-Use a rubber band to attach to each bottle the AHA/BJCP Identification form. The use
of tape or glue to attach forms is not acceptable.
4. Recipe information is not required with the entry. However, if your beer was brewed
using an experimental method, you must describe the style, special ingredient,
experimental technique, etc. on the entry forms.
C. WHERE TO ENTER, WHEN TO ENTER
1. Mailed in entries: PACK YOUR ENTRIES WELL. Partition and pack each bottle with
adequate packaging material. Boxes should weigh less than 40 pounds. Entries will be
refrigerated upon receipt, thus helping to preserve their quality prior to judging.
Entries sent by mail MUST be received by Saturday, 12 March, 2011.

2. Hand-delivered entries will be accepted beginning 1 February, 2011.

D. JUDGING / STEWARDING
1. Those interested in judging or stewarding, please contact Mr. Robert Christian at Beer

2. Judging will be conducted in open session on Saturday, 19 March, time TBD at the
JBLM McChord Club & Community Center. The award winners will be announced at the
Brewfest 25 March 11 at JBLM McChord Club & Community Center. All competitors
who provide samples of their homebrew on 25 March will be granted free admission to
the event, which will include bar foods, and sampling of homebrew and commercial
beers. Decisions of the judges are final. Organizers reserve the right to combine
categories if a sufficient number of entries are not received.
3. All participating judges and stewards for the homebrew competition will be granted
free entries into the competition and free entry into the Brewfest on 25 March, and will
be provided sponsored access onto the base for judging and participation.

E. AWARDS AND PRIZES
There will be first, second and third place AHA/BJCP medals awarded in all categories
judged. Additionally, awards will be given for first, second, and third-place winners for
the Best of Show competition as determined by the judges.
