Mrs. Joy D’Apuzzo 6th Grade Writers’ Workshop Writers’ Workshop Topics we will be covering: * Reinforcing 6 traits of Writing (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions) * Read & Respond to a Variety of Media (Non-Fiction Text, SCOPE Magazine, Novels, Newspaper Articles, Songs, Poetry, Art, Novels, Videos, Digital Media) * Information (expository) Essay Writing Required Materials USB Flash Drive One spiral notebook One composition book #2 Pencils and erasers and scissors Hand-held pencil sharpener Pens (blue/green/black/red) Personal tape with dispenser Highlighters (pink/yellow/green/blue) Writers’ Workshop Outline Homework Assignments: * Writers’ workshop only spiral notebook to practice Cornell Notes & respond to SCOPE * Composition notebook to respond to a variety of media * Worth 10 points if completed * Will earn 7 points if homework is incomplete * Late work (for any reason other than excused absence) will be accepted for a lower grade. Late work will be accepted until the Friday before the last week of the quarter. Papers & Projects: * Papers and projects are assigned in conjunction with some of the units. Some aspects of these papers/projects will be completed in class; however, other parts of the work will still need to be completed at home. Plagiarism & Cheating: We will have lessons specifically focused on plagiarism and how to avoid it. Please see page 15 in the planner to gain a better understanding of what we consider cheating and plagiarism, along with the consequences for such actions. Absences & Tardiness Excused Absences Students have as many days as they were absent to complete the work they missed. It is the responsibility of the student to request all missing assignments. You can also check my homework calendars to see what child has missed. Tardiness Students who arrive late will require a pass to be admitted to class. Those “unexcused” will receive a warning for the first offense, then campus clean up for the second offense. See student planner for more information. Survival Guide The Planner • All students are expected to write down homework assignments in their planner. • If there is NO homework, I have them write that down that as well. Every section for every subject should have something written in it. • The planner is a great tool containing important information. Please refer to it often.
