Saskatchewan Polytechnic There is a Saskatchewan Polytechnic Information Night on Wednesday, March 11th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Saskatoon Campus. The event includes: a brief overview of Sask Polytechnic, including the type of training provided and the advantages of a Sask Polytechnic education, a description of the admission process, and services offered to students, along with a general tour of the campus. A CSI event (Come See Investigate) event is scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, March 18th, at the Sask Polytechnic Saskatoon Campus. This is an opportunity to get a look at programs, student life, financial aid, admission requirements and the application process. Programs include: Agricultural Machinery Technician, Auto Body Technician, BioScience Technology, CAD/CAM Engineering Technology, Chemical Technology, Computer Systems Technology, Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant, Electronic Systems Engineering Technology, Electronics Technician, Fabricator Welder, Industrial Mechanics, Library and Information Technology, Machinist, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Parts Management Technician, Power Engineering Technology, Primary Care Paramedic, Recreation & Community Development and Welding. Great Plains College Anyone interested in learning more about Great Plains College is invited to the Warman Campus on Wednesday, March 25th (6:00 - 8:00 p.m.) to meet the staff and gather information on the Administrative Assistant, Business, Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant, Heavy Equipment Operator, Master of Business Administration in Community Economic Development, Youth Care Worker and Adult Basic Education programs offered in Warman. Another Open House event will be taking place on Wednesday, April 15th at the Biggar Program Centre. The Electrician program in Biggar and the Welding program in Rosetown have previously been advertised with an October start date. Both programs are now scheduled to begin September 1st, 2015. The Swift Current start dates remain unchanged. There are currently seats available in both programs. Students who apply before April 30th are automatically considered for the $500–5,000 grade-based entrance scholarship. The deadline for Practical Nursing at Swift Current Campus is fast approaching. Applications should be received before March 31st, 2015 in order to be eligible for consideration. North West Regional College The North West Regional College (NWRC) offers quality post-secondary education options at Battlefords and Meadow Lake Campuses. Students can take exciting first year university classes, or complete a hands-on skills program in business, trades, health care or community service to receive a certificate or diploma. Engaging safety or industry tickets training are also available at the NWRC to give students the knowledge they need to excel in their jobs. University of Alberta Aboriginal students are invited to Aboriginal Student Discovery Day, held Friday, March 13th, 2015. This full day event will provide students with a chance to see what the U of A has to offer for Aboriginal students and provide them with an opportunity to engage with staff and students. Lakeland College Enviro-Citing 2014, an informative and interactive day for anyone interested in studying environmental sciences at Lakeland College, will be held on March 6th. Ag-Citing 2014 will take place at Lakeland Vermilion Campus on March 13th. This day is designed for those interested in studying Agricultural Sciences. 8. Design-Citing will be held on March 20th at Vermilion Campus. Learn all the different techniques for rendered drawings as part of a day long info session about the Interior Design program. Interested in Street Rod Technology? At Get Fired Up for SRT on March 20th you'll get to see the SRT lab, meet the first class of students and see their projects. Olds College A series of Preview Days will be held in March highlighting a variety of program offerings. Business programs on March 13th; Agriculture and Land programs on March 20th; and Horticultural and Trades programs will be featured on March 27th. SchoolCreative: Institute of the Arts in Vancouver offers a number of full-time postsecondary programs ranging from 6 to 12 months in the following disciplines: Acting for Film, TV & Voice-Overs; Video Game Design; Video Game Programming; 2D Animation; 3D Animation and Digital Photography. Click here for more information. 10. MC College is an accredited institution across western Canada with 7 campuses in total offering Hairstyling and Esthetics programs. MC College wants to support creative young individuals interested in pursuing a career in the Salon or Spa Industry by offering a scholarship valued at $1000. The scholarship may be applied to either our full time Hairstyling or full time Esthetics program at MC College. Retail as a Career Scholarship Program is for students entering a retail or business-related post-secondary program. Programs include: fashion merchandising/marketing; graphic design; advertising; communications; human resources; management; sociology. Applicants must have some retail work experience at least on a part-time basis. The deadline for applications for one of the 26 scholarships to be awarded is Tuesday, March 31st. 2. SaskTel awards eleven post-secondary scholarships, valued at $3,000 each, to Saskatchewan students pursuing careers in telecommunications and information technology. The deadline for application to the SaskTel Scholarship is March 31st. 3. Every full-time student in a student-loan eligible program who applies before April 30th will receive a minimum Entrance Scholarship of $500 from Great Plains College. Grades-based scholarships up to a maximum total of $5,000 are available to students in the Bachelor of Social Work, Business, Educational Assistant, Electrician, Office Administration, University, Welding and Youth Care Worker Programs. Apply in Grade 11 and you’ll also be considered for an Early Entrance Award of $1,000 (must apply before June 30th though). This is in addition to any money you may receive based on your Grade 12 marks! 4. The University of British Columbia application for the 2015 Summer Scholars Program is now open. Students spend 2 weeks in July engaged in hands-on research and learning with UBC professors at the Okanagan campus. There are 2 programs to choose from this year: Environmental Sciences or Applied Science. To participate, students must be: (i) between 16 and 18 years of age; (ii) in Grade 11 or 12 next year (2015-2016); (iii) in good academic standing; and (iv) able to undertake studies in English at the university level. Only 40 spots are available in each course. The deadline for application is May 15th, 2015. 5. On behalf of Saskatchewan Credit Unions, CRI Canada awards 2 Learning Grants in the amounts of $1000 to eligible students for full-time study at a qualifying Canadian college or university. Any student who is a member of a Saskatchewan Credit Union is eligible to apply. For further information, click HERE. The SaskTel Aboriginal Youth Awards of Excellence recognize youth achievement in 10 categories. You can nominate any youth or group if they are: 6. Of Aboriginal ancestry 7. Between 14 and 18 years of age by May 22nd, 2015 8. A resident of Saskatchewan 9. Able to demonstrate outstanding commitment and/or ability in one of the 10 award categories 10. Students interested in pursuing a trade in the future should consider signing up for the Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship program. To be eligible for the program, students must be registered in school, be at least 15 years of age, and meet one of the following criteria: (a) have experience with part-time or seasonal employment, (b) be registered in a trade-related Practical & Applied Arts (PAA) class, (c) be registered in Career and Work Exploration 10, 20 or 30, or (d) be registered in a PAA survey course with at least one-third trade-related content. While SYA is not a credit program, it does provide several advantages to students who enter a trade after high school and it looks great on a resume! 2. The Skills Canada Provincial Competition brings together high school, post-secondary students, apprentices and other training programs young people, to showcase each person's skills and knowledge in the skilled trades and technologies in our province. There are two competition categories – secondary (high school students) and post-secondary (SIAST students, apprentices and other training facility students). The competition provides a venue for youth in our province to compete against other Saskatchewan youth at a skilled trade or technology that they have been working on during the year.
