Promoting and marketing your society sends a strong message to others in your community. These are people who may not know there is a society, have never considered genealogy as an interest, and who may be considered potential society members. The society must have either an individual or a committee responsible for Marketing and Public Relations. A detailed contacts database is essential, including print and other media contacts, synagogues, schools and other Jewish community institutions. www.iajgs.org © 2013 International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies 69 On-line Tools For Management IAJGS items on website • IAJGS "Create a Local JGS" Manual • Who Should You Target for Membership? • Creating Your New Society • Administrative Details for Organization • Program Planning • Publicity www.iajgs.org © 2013 International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies 70 On-line Tools For Management IAJGS items on website • JGS Membership Retention Presentation During the IAJGS 2009 International Conference on Jewish Genealogy in Philadelphia, IAJGS presented a very successful session on Membership\Membership retention. It is felt that the IAJGS should give the lead in setting standards of behavior as applied to the world of Jewish genealogy.” www.iajgs.org © 2013 International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies 74 On-line Tools For Management IAJGS items on website • Guidelines for Effective Brainstorming The purpose of a brainstorming session is, through group participation, to generate as many ideas as possible to address an issue or opportunity, and then decide on the best ideas for follow-up action. Consider substituting a brainstorming session for one society board meeting each year, and then setting aside some time at subsequent meetings to discuss implementing the best ideas. www.iajgs.org © 2013 International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies 75 On-line Tools For Management FGS Series Strategies Series I: Strategies for Societies Series II: Strategies for Presidents Series III: Strategies for Vice-Presidents Series IV: Strategies for Treasurers Series V: Strategies for Secretaries Series VI: Strategies for Program Chairpersons Series VII: Strategies for Librarians Series VIII: Strategies for Editors www.iajgs.org © 2013 International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies 76 On-line Tools For Management FGS Series Strategies Series I: Strategies for Societies • S1-1: Legalities of Establishing a Society (Kaufman) • S1-2: The Policy and Procedure Manual (Kaufman) • S1-3: The Society Newsletter (Luebking) • S1-4: Projects for Fundraising (Luebking) • S1-5: Community Service Projects (Luebking) • S1-6: How to Run an Election (Carter) • S1-7: A First Families Project (Graham) • S1-11: Long-Range Planning (Rencher, Witcher & Warren) • S1-12: Is There an Office in Your Society's Future?
