Chloroplasts

•
•
•
•
Are only found in plant cells.
Replace mitochondria
Produce energy from sunlight
Thylakoids trap the sunlight
A group of thylakoids is called a granum.
Function
• This cells purpose is to make food
• It takes water and CO2 and uses sunlight to make it
into sugars
Interesting Facts
• Give pants their green color.
• Is necessary in photosynthesis.
• The one unique organelle that only plants have.
And on to Centrioles!
What do They Look Like?
• Made of nine microtubules arranged in a circular
shape
 gives them a cylinder appearance
Where are They Located?
•
•
•
•
Found in animal cells and most protist cells
Float around in the cytoplasm
Located near the nucleus
Found in pairs
Function
• Helps in cell division
• nucleation points for spindle formation during
mitosis and meiosis
• The basal body for cilia and flagella
