Year 12 Summer Assignment – Cell organelles Aims: • To be able to describe and interpret drawings and photographs of eukaryotic cells seen under an electron microscope and be able to recognise the following structures: nucleus, nucleolus, nuclear envelope, rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi apparatus, ribosomes, mitochondria, lysosomes, chloroplasts, plasma (cell surface) membrane, centrioles, flagella and cilia; • To be able to outline the function of the structures Task: Produce an A3 poster or booklet that summarises the structure and functions of the organelles found in plant and animal cells. For each organelle you should include: o o o o o Name Diagram and electron micrograph image Where it is found (plant/animal/both) Brief outline of its structure Brief outline of its function Structure Ribosomes Function To be able to compare and contrast with the aid of diagrams and electron micrographs the structure and ultrastructure of plant and animal cells Use your own poster, the diagrams below and internet research to complete the table with either a √, X or sometimes.
