This presentation will show you some of the maps that can be used to encourage patrons in your library to make full use of the many free online maps that can be easily accessed. There are world map images, physical feature maps, state maps, road maps, and international maps. There is such variety at this site, everything from maps of earthquakes in California to National Parks UK. GasBuddy.com http://www.californiagasprices.com/USA_Tax_Map.aspx Along with information about gas prices, this site has the map for gas taxes across the country and a US map with prices by county and gas price heat maps for states. Geology.com http://geology.com/meteor-impact-craters.shtml This site not only has all sorts of information about geology, but it has links to state maps, world maps and satellite images. When you click on a tab, for instance the US Maps, there are several different maps for that specific state such as political, county, rivers and lakes or elevation maps. World maps have maps for regions or countries and also has links for several types of maps, including political and satellite images. Nationalatlas.gov http://www.nationalatlas.gov/natlas/Natlasstart.asp This site has tons of options for making your own maps. You chose what you want to have displayed such as climate, transportation, water, agriculture, etc. You can have basic maps or fill them in with information on roads, counties and cities and towns. You create layers and the redraw the map. How surveillance prevents terrorism? There are many amazing maps online that many patrons may not know about.
