English II Pre-AP Calendar First Six Weeks: August 23 – October 1 Mrs. Bates/Mrs. Rhor August 30th – September 1st Monday: Vocabulary List #1 (quiz on Friday Sept. 1); discuss timed writing strategies and expectations; look at AP prompt Tuesday: look at student samples from AP writing prompt; discuss rubric; work in groups to assess and evaluate grading Wednesday/Thursday: go over timed writing prompt (grade to be determined) discuss accompanying article and take notes concerning diction, tone, and other rhetorical devices; SAT practice sentences (if time allows) Friday: vocabulary quiz; peer evaluate timed writings September 6th – September 10th Monday – Labor Day Holiday! Tuesday – feedback on timed writings (reassess if needed no later than Friday, Sept. 10); introduction to Greek Tragedy/”Antigone” background if time allows Wednesday/Thursday: continue or begin Greek Tragedy background information; read and discuss Frost’s poem, “The Road Not Taken” Friday: start or continue reading, Sophocles’ “Antigone”; discuss themes; “Antigone”multiple choice objective test scheduled for Monday, September 20th.
