WELCOME TO WEST MIDDLE
SCHOOL PHYSICAL
EDUCATION/HEALTH CLASS
Mrs. Hargrove, Mr. Penning, & Mr. Williams
The Purpose, What to do, What it will look like, Helpful Tips,
and Goals
THE PURPOSE
• We are here to encourage you to live healthy and active life styles
• We are here to introduce you to ways to be physically active
• We are here to inspire you to try new things that will help you be a better you
• We are here to help you take charge of your physical, mental, and emotional health
• We are here to provide you with suggestions, ideas, and tools that you can use outside of school with family and friends
WHAT TO DO
• Make sure you have all the materials you need
• Check out the learning target for the day

Healthy Lifestyle Log – we will give this to
you

• All materials must come to class in a sling bag
or plastic bag
• Get started on your healthy lifestyle log
(Mon./Tues.)
• If you have a questions, comments, or concerns
please raise your hand
• Wait patiently for directions
• 3 Whistles Stop, Drop, Quiet
• Give it your ALL – effort, effort, effort
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
• We will dismiss you to the locker room to dress out in your PE clothes and put your things
away – 8th Grade
• 7th & 6th grades will report directly to the locker room and will wait behind the line, a
teacher will dismiss you to your assigned spot
• You do not have assigned lockers, please bring your own lock
• On Mondays and Tuesdays you will f/o your Healthy Life Style Log before reporting to the
locker room. Make sure you have something to write with.
• Return to the locker room: change into school clothes, get all your belongings, put your id
on, and wait behind the line for a teacher to dismiss you at the end of class
DURING CLASS
• You will stretch while the teachers: take attendance, make sure students are dressed for class, &
have all materials
• Daily exercises will be lead by teacher
• Cardiovascular activity will then take place:
1.
Your class will either participate in the PACER and/or Jogging the straights/Walking the curves
2.
When outside on the track girls will meet by the rain garden and boys will meet at the top right
hand corner or the track
3.
wait for the whistle to begin, stop at each jog sign on the track
4.
8 minutes for the jogging/walking
• We will end the class with our daily activity/sport skills and/or games

HELPFUL TIPS
• Follow directions given by any adult
• Get an A – bring & wear gym clothes, bring all materials listed on second slide, participate, give 100% effort, complete all
assignments/activities, follow directions
• Help us help the class have fun
• Be Patience, Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Positive, Be Safe
• Ask for help
• Everything you do in this class counts towards your grade, whether it is positive or negative

• Electronic devices should not be seen and/or heard

REDIRECTING/REFOCUSING
• Not Following Class Expectations and Procedures
1st Incident – conversation with adult
2nd Incident – placed in refocus area (penalty box)
3rd Incident – sent to buddy room with written assignment, student must complete
written assignment and an agreement for changing behavior before returning to
physical activity
