Student Council Executive Board Candidate Packet 2014-2015 Congratulations! Attending this meeting demonstrates that you are interested in becoming an important leader for our school. Please know that being on the Student Council Executive Board is a big responsibility but is also an incredibly fun and rewarding experience. Today we will go over the contents of this packet. You must return the entire completed packet no later than Friday, April 25rd. ABSOLUTELY NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED! Applicant Name ______________________________ TEAM ___________ Student Speeches and Taping Students running for one of the executive student council positions will be required to give a speech that will be videotaped and then broadcast to all 6 th and 7th grade classes on May 7-9. Requirements: You must type your speech and deliver a hard copy to Ms. Bailey (Room 315) NO LATER THAN Monday, May 5th. You must also save your speech to a flash drive and bring it with you when you record your video. Your speech will be transferred from your flash drive to a teleprompter. This is the ONLY WAY you will be able to record your speech. There will be no time to type your speech on the day you are scheduled to tape your speech. Not having your speech ready is not an acceptable excuse. Students will sign up for a day and time to record their speech. The sign up sheet will be outside of Ms. Bailey’s room. However, the actual taping will take place in Mr. Nienaber’s room (52) on Tuesday, April 29th and Friday, May 2nd during 7th grade lunch and Academic Lab. IMPORTANT DATES Monday and Tuesday, April 21st and 22nd : Student Council Election Meeting in Ms. Bailey’s room during 7th grade lunch. You will pick up your election packet, go over campaigning rules, discuss deadlines, and detail the speech requirements. Friday, April 25th : Applications due for executive board. Turn into Ms. Bailey in room 315 or give to the office. NO LATE APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED. Monday, May 5th : Speeches due to Ms. Bailey. (Sign up to record speeches on sign-up sheet outside of Ms. Bailey’s room). Monday, April 28th until Friday, May 9th : Posters may be hung up (after school or before school only). Tuesday, April 29 and Friday, May 2nd : speeches taped during lunch and Academic Lab in Broadcast Club room (52). Wednesday, May 7th through Friday, May 9th : Speeches aired to 6th and 7th grade students. Students will vote the same day. Monday, May 12th : 2014-2015 Executive Board Members announced at the end of the school day. Altadena Student Council Election Agreement Before running for a position on the student council executive board, you must agree to the following: 1. Attend all meetings, both Executive Board and Full Council Meetings. 2. Attend, lead, and participate in all student council sponsored events, (dances, fundraisers, Spirit Days, etc…). 3. Maintain high standards of behavior and academic responsibility. Campaign Rules 1. Candidates may have no more than 5 posters to hang on campus. Words and images on the posters must be school appropriate. 2. Stickers may be given to students as part of the campaign, but are limited to 100 stickers. 3. After the election, the candidate will be responsible for cleaning up the posters and any stickers on campus. 4. No other campaign materials are allowed to be distributed on campus. No candy, pencils, or other forms of election paraphernalia may be used. 5. Students may only campaign before school, between classes, at lunch, and after school. Any candidate that violates these rules will be eliminated from the ballot. Please make sure that you get signature from BOTH of your elective teachers. All students must also maintain an Excellent or Good Behavior rating to run for any position.
