Inner core
Description
The third layer is made up of liquid rock and
metals such as iron and nickel. It is about 2300km
Thick and has a temperature of 4000-6000C.
The innermost layer of the earth may have a
Temperature as high as 7000C. This layer is about
1200km thick and is made up of solid iron and nickel
because the earths layers around it push down on
it with enormous pressure.
The outer layer of the Earth which includes
landforms, rocks and soil. It is made up of solid
rocks and varies in thickness
The layer below the crust made up of molten rock.
It is about 2900 km thick making it the biggest
layer. Temperature varies from 500-2200C. The
Upper part of the mantle is called the Athenosphere

TERM
DEFINITION
athenosphere
The solid centre of the Earth
crust
A very hot mixture of molten rock and gases just below the Earth’s surface
that has come from the mantle layer below the Earth’s outer crust.
inner core
The liquid layer surrounding the solid inner core of the Earth
lithosphere
The hot, semi fluid upper part of the Earth’s mantle
magma
The rocks and soil of the outer layer of the Earth
mantle
The outer layer of the Earth, made mostly of solid rock
outer core
The thick layer inside the Earth, below the crust. Most of the mantle is solid
rock, although the upper part is molten rock called magma.
