Chapters 4-8 & 10
Learning Targets
1. Use what you have learned about Ecosystems to explain how nitrogen, carbon,
phosphorus, and water are cycled and use graphics to describe how energy is
transferred through various organisms in the food web. Give examples that are
specific to your biome
2. Discuss what is being done in regards to conservation to protect the biodiversity of
your biome and threats created by human’s increasing population and growth.
3. Construct a closed environment for your goldfish and create an environment that is
sustainable.
4. Design a PowerPoint Presentation of your chosen biome proving your
comprehension of the factors influencing your biome.

NOTEBOOK CHECK
We will be in the library to do research on your selected biome. You will work in a group of
4 for this project, but each one will be responsible for their own slides. Slides will be
compiled on the Student share, to give a group presentation covering parts of same topic.
Your group members cannot negatively affect your grade.
The Biome Project
PowerPoint worth 100 pts - 10 pts/bullet
1. _____/5 pts Group Title page with each student’s name and disclaimer on front page
Each person in a group completes the following:
Describe the populations within your biome. Paint a picture of how the following
interact as a whole to form ecosystems
2.
10/pts 1 species, please have a picture and describes its niche, habitat, predator
prey relationships, nesting (4 or 5 total in each group)
3._____ 10/pts Optimal environment for your species – biome overview slide, please divide
topically ( types of your biome, location, climate, geography etc)
4._____ 10/pts 5 producers, 7 consumers around your species
5._____ 10/pts Food web with your species – discuss the biodiversity In your biome
6.
10/pts 2 biotic/2 abiotic factors limiting populations in your biome, use other species
(be specific) increasing in population as one of your limiting factors
7._____ 10/pts One Cycle – Nitrogen, Carbon, Water, Phosphorus and how it affects your
biome (split between the 4 of you)
8. _____ Ecological pyramid – energy, numbers, mass (divide up in your group)
9._____ 5/pts Proper works cited, pictures documented, MLA format, use Easy Bib
Two people in group find and discuss an extinct species
10____ Explain how one species has become extinct after having lived in your
Biome. Make sure to discuss its niche and limiting factors.
Two people in group discuss conservation and overall stability of your biome. Divide
it up!
