Introduction: Who is the person who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball?
This would be Jackie Robinson. In the book, Jackie's Nine, it displays nine of his
most important values. Jackie Robinson is an excellent role model to follow because
of his courage, determination, and his integrity.
(One of the most important values that he had was his courage.)
I. Jackie is a man
of courage.
A. On August
28, 1945, Jackie joins the Brooklyn Dodgers.
1. There had been many
African Americans who tried to make
it to the Major Leagues.
2. He is the first African
American to make it onto a formal Major
League team.
B. Jackie
endures a lot of racism.

used racial put-downs.
received many death threats.
C. Jackie wrote the autobiography: "I Never Had It Made."

said that a life isn't important unless it has an impact on others.

felt that if he couldn't impact someone else, then he would have
a wasted life.
(Not only was a courageous young man, but he was also a man of determination.)
II. Jackie was also a man
of determination.

after there wedding, he and his wife missed a flight
as they were on their way to his first spring training.

Jacksonville after the spring training.

Clemente was going to go help people an earthquake in Managua.
1. He went
around trying to collect money and supplies in a rich
community.
2. His plane
crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, and he dies with his
companions.
(Jackie’s determination was only mere glimpse of the qualities this man
possessed, not to mention another attribute being his integrity.)
III. Jackie was
a man of is integrity.
A. Jackie was not
liked because of his race.
I.He had to fight to make white people to believe that he deserved to
play and to be a normal person. (They should accept him for the
content of his character not by the color of his skin.)
2. He thought he had to work harder just to be thought of as good
enough like the white players.
B. Jackie is like Jesus.
1. Jesus
suffered so that people could have a better life.
2. Jackie suffered so that other African Americans
could play Major
League Baseball and more opportunities in their lives.
C. Jackie
living his last days.

day before he died, he saw a flash in his good eye. (He had a
ruptured blood vessel.) The next day Jackie fell down, said "I love
you," to Rachel, his Wife, in her arms and died.
(Jackie is one person who was well known for the values that he displayed.)
Conclusion: Jackie Robinson is easily recognized as the person who broke the color
barrier in Major League Baseball. To be able to do this, he got past many obstacles
and hardships. He was able to do these magnificent things because of his values
which include his courage, determination, and his integrity. Can you use any of
these values in your own life?
