Algebraic concepts will be used to assist students in their approach to problem solving in a logical manner. Technology tools such as calculators, spreadsheets and the Internet will be used to address realistic business situations such as personnel, payroll, purchasing, marketing, accounting records, insurance and business technology. This class does not meet the NCAA math requirement. ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS 1. Solve problems involving whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percents, ratios, averages using appropriate conversions. 2. Apply the order of operations principle when solving problems. 3. Construct, read, and interpret tables, charts, and graphs. 4. Calculate gross earnings, payroll withholdings, and net earnings. 5. Calculate fixed and variable costs, analyze data, and estimate the projected total income and total expenses for a given time period. 6. Calculate total purchase price, net business purchases with discounts and purchase returns and allowances. 7. Compute net sales, markup, markdown and percents based on selling price and cost. 8. Calculate total, average, and unit costs of factory supplies space and labor. 9. Convert currency using exchange rates. 10. Use mathematical tools such as graphing calculators, internet calculators and spreadsheets. II. Textbooks/Materials/Fees: Mathematics with Business Applications III. Attendance Policy: Start on Time: The ‘Start on Time’ procedure will be used before passing periods 1, 3, 5, and 7. If the door is shut you will need to report to the Commons Area and get hall pass. Excused/Unexcused/Pre-Arranged: For an excused absence students will have an additional two days to make up work For pre-arranged absences, students are to report to the attendance office for paperwork IV. Grading Policy: Each student’s grade will be determined by using the total-points method and the following grade scale: (A) 100- 90 (B) 89 - 80 (C) 79 – 70 (D) 69 – 60 (F) 59 or below Final grades and earned credits are issued at the conclusion of each grading period. The course grade is based both on student achievement/performance throughout the course and on a culminating experience at the end of the course. The purpose of a culminating experience should be for students to demonstrate to their teachers what they have learned.
