Short Course Eventing Sunday 3 May To be held at “Fairlands”, East Tamar Hwy, Launceston, Tasmania’s best event sensation and hosted by Lilydale District Pony Club. The course has been recently upgraded to a National standard and has been acclaimed by Technical Delegates of International standing. This is a unique opportunity for all Tasmanian students to represent their school in an electrifying and exhilarating horse riding competition in the 3 combined disciplines of dressage, cross country and show jumping. Spectators have premium views of the entire course with ongoing commentary keeping them in touch with the rider’s progress. In 2015 we have continued to develop this brand new concept to the Tasmanian eventing scene. Short Course Eventing is taking off in Europe, Canada and the United States. This sport combines the three Olympic equestrian disciplines. Competitors complete their dressage. A combined phase of show jumping/cross country/show jumping follows. This combined stage is one course with no break in between, providing fast ongoing action for competitors and spectators alike. An optional bonus show jump is in place after the finish line where extra points can be gained or lost. In 2015, we are reintroducing five levels of thrilling competition equivalent to pony club eventing grades 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5. Teams are to be comprised of three or four riders, but if you can’t put one together from your own school, don’t worry, we can place you in a scramble team. There are trophies for winning teams, and all riders receive a souvenir of the event. Entries will be limited, so enter early. CHEQUE & Schools Equestrian Event – Information The new and exciting idea of short course eventing has been further developed for this year’s event. Short course eventing is taking off all around the world. It combines the traditional three Olympic phases of dressage, cross country and show jumping in a fast moving and exhilarating format. The dressage is performed first then followed by a combined course of show jumping, cross country and more show jumping. This fast moving action is excellent to watch, with spectators able to see the whole event from a vantage point. Unless otherwise stated and where relevant, the EA National Eventing Rules 2014 with the PCAT Addendum will apply. For further information on any rules please contact Janice Van Riel on 63951450 or lilydalepc@gmail.com School coordinators are advised to clarify any rules relating to saddlery BEFORE the event. Specific rule differences: DRESSAGE PHASE Each rider will perform a dressage test. The tests are: Grade 1 – EA Elementary 3.1 2014, Grade 2 – EA Novice 2.1 2014, Grade 3 – EA Preliminary 1.2 2014, Grade 4 – EA Preliminary 1.1 2014, Grade 5 - PCAV 5B Feb 2013 All combinations will complete their Dressage phase and then there will be a break before their jumping phase. JUMPING PHASE . The Jumping Course will be a combined course of cross-country and show jump fences. The course will include approximately 14 fences (8 x cross-country and 6 x show jump). There will be an optional joker fence (show jump). This is placed AFTER the finish line. If successfully jumped the joker fence will wipe 5 penalties off the total score. If the joker fence is knocked down the rider will incur 10 penalties. Eligibility The competition is open to students who are attending Tasmanian government and non-government schools, as well as grade 11/12 colleges and equivalents in Tasmania. Schools may enter more than one team. Schools that are unable to field a team may enter individual riders who will be combined with other riders to form a scramble team. A responsible person must endorse the entry in order to ensure the riders are competent to ride. Riders who are not a current member of a Tasmanian pony club must pay $10 day insurance (public liability only) with their entry, and complete a Day Attendee Application & Release of Waiver of Liability which is attached. Teams Teams will consist of 3 or 4 riders with the best 3 scores to count. Teams are encouraged to select a team “name”. Competition There are separate competitions: Senior Composite from Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (3 or 4 riders from two or more competition grades) Junior Composite from Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (3 or 4 riders from two or more competition grades) NOTE: The Senior & Junior sections will be decided by taking the average age of the teams and dividing the entries into 2 halves (if there is an odd number then the junior section will have the extra). There is no guarantee which section your team will be in, however a team of primary students would definitely be “junior” and a team with one or two under 12’s is likely to be junior (depending on the age of the other team members). Entry Closing date for entries is Friday 24th April. The entry must be accompanied by the correct entry fee, day insurance fee where applicable, and be signed by a responsible person in order to be valid. Emailed entries are considered signed and confirmed when payment is received. Some schools may require an invoice before payment can be made – please email Lilydale District Pony Club at lilydalepc@gmail.com stating number of riders so an invoice can be raised. Once the entry has been made no changes can be made to the team. We will try to accommodate schools where there is a genuine reason but no guarantees can be made. Entry limits Entry will be limited to around 120 riders and (this is due to time restraints) If there are excess entries the organisers will ballot out entries but will endeavour to ensure each school is represented. Entry restrictions No rider may ride more than one horse and no horse can have more than one rider. Scramble team In the event that a school cannot find enough riders for a team they can enter 1 or 2 riders who will be combined with others to make up a scramble team. A scramble team cannot win the trophy; however they will be awarded ribbons and mementos. Format The competition will consist of dressage, cross-country & show jumping. Dressage is held first and this is followed by show jumping/cross-country/show jumping, (the timetable will be advised later). Dressage will be held in 60 x 20m arenas. Dress Approved safety helmet and smooth soled riding boots MUST be worn at all times when mounted. Body protectors MUST be worn by riders competing in Pony Club grades 1, 2 or 3. It is recommended that body protectors be worn for Pony Club Grade 4 and 5. Neat, tidy dress is required. Teams may select their own uniform if required and are encouraged to do so. Whips may only be carried in the dressage phase by grades 4 and 5. Spurs are optional in all phases. Prizes A Saddleworld trophy will be awarded to the winning team of each competition. The trophy should be displayed at the school and returned in time for the following year’s competition. The trophy will be engraved with the names of the winning team at the school’s expense. The trophy remains the responsibility of the captain of the winning team until returned. Ribbons will be awarded to 4 th place. All participants will receive a memento. Assistants Each team must provide at least two assistants. Reservation of Rights The organisers reserve the right to cancel or divide any class, alter the advertised times, or refuse any entry, with or without stating a reason. No smoking, dogs or stallions allowed. Canteen A canteen will be available. Day Attendee Application & Release of Waiver of Liability Participants, who are not registered financial members of an authorized Pony Club, must be recorded as Day Attendees in order to participate in pony club activities. Protection is afforded to the participant under the pony club’s public liability policy during such activities but does not provide personal accident insurance.
