IEC Meeting Summary – December 2, 2010 Humanities 114, 1:00p-2:30p IEC Meetings Spring 2011: 2/3, 2/17, 3/3, 3/17, 4/7, 4/21, 5/5, 5/19 1. Activity: Committee Evaluation Instrument (8-Factor Model) In an effort to continually improve College processes in general and committee effectiveness specifically through the assessment process, IEC piloted the “Committee Diagnosis Questionnaire”. The questionnaire was developed by Collegiate Project Services and is based on an eight factor model of committee effectiveness: Results, Ownership/Morale, Focus, Team Processes, Communication, Leadership Sharing, Leadership Support, and Structure. IEC members reviewed the 8-Factor Model, completed the questionnaire for IEC, and discussed both. Members agreed that the model appeared to be sufficient for the purpose of providing self-assessment information regarding the effectiveness of committees. Members especially appreciated the model’s focus on results and communication, and anticipated that many committees at the College will score low overall. While the questionnaire was short, structured in a way that would be easy for committees to fill-out, and the results would likely be easily understood, there was concern that the double-barreled nature of a number of items was problematic. IEC members agreed to review the items, and submit to the IEC Blackboard site suggested item wording changes. It was also suggested that an additional item or two might be appropriate to improve item or factor clarity by Friday Dec 17th. Dwayne agreed to set up a folder under “Working Docs” for members to post their item review. 2. Spring meeting dates Following are IEC’s meeting dates for the Spring. We agreed that meeting the first week of school would not be too much of a hardship since the meeting is late in the week and in the afternoon. May 19 th will be the last meeting of the year since it lands the week before Finals Week. Spring Break, which is the week of March 28 th (the 5th week of the month) does not affect our schedule this year. We have gotten approval to hold IEC meetings in Humanities 107 in the Spring. Spring 2011 (1st and 3rd Thursdays): 2/3, 2/17, 3/3, 3/17, 4/7, 4/21, 5/5, 5/19 3. SLO Coordinator The flyer requesting Letters of Interest for the SLO Coordinator is going out today to tenured, full-time faculty with a deadline of Wednesday December 15, 2010. The assignment is a 50% reassignment or stipend for a year and a half beginning in the Spring 2010. Priorities for the next two years will be to complete assessment of program SLOs (including G.E. SLOs), develop and assess Institutional outcomes, and implement formal College-wide SLO discussion. 4. Breakout into task groups The committee met as a whole to discuss task group “d” issues. The focus today was on “providing feedback to PR authors”. d. Develop a process of systematic review of program review reports. 1. Mt. SAC workshop 2. Contra Costa -http://www.contracosta.edu/facultystaff/resources/progrev/Shared%20Documents/VALIDATION%20REPORT%20AND%20PROCESS.aspx During the week, there was much activity with members reviewing and posting to the Blackboard site a number of models in place at other colleges. For the part of “Providing Feedback to PR Authors”, the committee agreed that the LBCC Validation Response Form most closely represented the kind of form we would like to use to solicit and communicate back feedback. Further, members agreed to review the LBCC form with the following objectives: 1. Modify the items to fit use at GWC 2. Review the form specifically from your Wing’s perspective (Admin Svcs, Executive, Student Svcs, or Instruction), 3. Reduce the number of items down to no more than two pages 4. Post your review to the IEC Blackboard site. (There is a folder under “Task Groups 2010-11” titled “Program Review Validation” 5. Due by Friday Dec 17th
