MAR 3203 – Supply Chain and Operations Management (3 Credit Hours)
Spring 2015
Quotes from former students
“I just wanted to say that I am so glad we used Excel in class. It helped me get a new position at
my company. All I did was talk about the Excel work we did in class, and they offered me the
job.”
“I left UCF in 2004 prior to graduating to start a business. I now bring in $50 million in
revenue each year. I came back to school to finish my degree because my mom wanted me to. I
didn’t think I’d learn anything new by completing my degree; I already run a successful
company. I was wrong, your class is the only one that that I can use to improve my business.”
“Thanks for teaching this course. I am already using what I’ve learned in my job.”
“This class really helped my team compete in our accounting case completion.”

All faculty members are required to document students' academic activity at the beginning
of each course. In order to document that you began this course, please complete the
academic activity by clicking the Quiz tab in Webcourses and complete the Orlando RV
Attendance Verification case study questions by the end of the first week of classes January
16th 11:55pm, or as soon as possible after adding the course. Failure to do so will result in a
delay in the disbursement of your financial aid.
All EXAMS: All exams (including final exam) must be taken at the campus where you are
registered for this class. Make absolutely sure you know where you are registered. Regional
campus students must schedule a time to take your exams well in advance with their respective
testing centers. Space is limited, if you don’t schedule a test date and time with your testing
center well in advance, there is possibility that you’ll miss the exam. Consider scheduling early!
There are no walk-ins. If you have any scheduling issues, you must contact your respective
testing center.

2014, by Jay Heizer and Barry Render, Pearson (loose-leaf, three hole punch version-UCF
custom edition). The e-book and hardcover 11th ed. are also acceptable. MyOMLab is required.
**Please see Webcourses Modules Page for additional textbook information, MyOMLab
registration and directions to access the e-book.
CLASS COMMUNICATIONS:
Email: When emailing, it is imperative that you include me and our TAs in all email
correspondence. Email us using the email tool in Webcourses only. This ensures that we will get
your email and that it will not end up as junk mail or flagged as spam. And more importantly,
we can answer your questions promptly.
***It is very, very, very important that you follow the procedure below to send email. You will
need to select All Teachers and All Teaching Assistants or you run the risk of not getting a reply
to your email***
1. Choose Inbox in the upper right-hand corner of the screen when you log into Webcourses.
2. Choose New Message icon (a pencil in a gray box) to open a new message.
3. Select our course from the drop down menu and then click on the "head" icon in the To field.
4. In the To field; Select Teachers then select "All in Teachers"; then select Teaching Assistants,
select "All in Teaching Assistants".
5. Type the Date of your email in subject line.
6. Type your message in the Message window and indicate whether you are a regional or main
campus student. (Do not forget to attach or type your work if you need help with homework
problems)
7. DO NOT check the box "Send individual messages." If you select this box, you will receive
multiple replies creating a lot of additional work for all of us. DO NOT select the box.
8. Choose Send.
When you email a question regarding the class content, especially the quantitative work, you
must send your work within your email. If you do not send your work to us first, our next
response to you will be, 'please send your work'.
Discussion Boards: I would encourage you to use the discussion board on Webcourses to ask
your fellow classmates questions. Many times your classmates will have the answers to your
questions. They are a great resource. Please do not use the discussion board as your personal
sounding board. Ask questions and provide answers to posted questions, but leave the rest off of
the discussion board. If your behavior warrants, you may be removed from further access to the
discussion boards and our class.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Three Exams: Main Campus students must take all exams in the Orlando main campus
testing center BA2 Room 104. Regional campus students must take all of the exams at their
respective regional campus testing centers. Main campus testing center rules/policy/test dates
and seat availability can be viewed at http://www.bus.ucf.edu/testingcenter. Select Student from
the left hand column for more information.
Students must provide a valid UCF student ID to be admitted into the Testing Center. You will
be allowed to use a basic or business calculator-don’t forget to bring one with you to every
exam. Absolutely no programmable or graphing calculators will be allowed in the testing
centers. You’ll need to bring your own formulas to the exam. You’ll be allowed to bring a 3x5
index card (front and back) to the exam for notes and/or formulas, whatever you think you’ll
need. The testing center has a policy in place regarding notecards. Read their policy.
If we covered material in class, it is fair game for the exam. You'll need to review lectures for
sure, and use the slides, text and homework as reinforcement. Expect exam scores to be released
the day after the close of each exam.
Regional Campus Testing Lab Hours
Check the testing center website or call your respective regional testing center. Each has its own
schedule.
For more information for regional campus testing, go to
http://www.bus.ucf.edu/testingcenter. Select Student from the left hand column, then select
Regional Campus Help.
Regional campus students still need to follow the same policies, dates and times for the exams as
the Orlando Main Campus except for the following difference: you must schedule your exam
well in advance with your respective testing center and you must complete the exam within the
date and time range stated in the test schedule table below. The testing center availability to take
the exams is dictated by the personnel at your respective regional campuses. It is imperative that
you coordinate taking your exam with the test center personnel.
Make-up exam policy:
Category 1: If you are unable to complete any of the exams due to an officially sanctioned
university activity (e.g. band, debate, student government, intercollegiate athletics, etc.), personal
religious obligation or a medical emergency with documentation from a medical provider, then
you can make up the missed exam at a mutually agreed upon time (you do not have to wait until
the makeup period). To request making up the exam, because of the previously stated reasons, a
student must provide me a written request and verifiable documentation of the anticipated
absence in advance of the start of the exam period. If you do not provide the documentation
prior to the exam or you wait until the make up period to take your missed exam, then you fall
into category 2 (see below).
Category 2: You can make up one missed exam from the first two exams-no questions
asked. THERE IS NO MAKE-UP FOR THE FINAL EXAM. The missed exam can be made up
during the dates and times listed in the exam schedule. You do not need to contact our TAs or
me. Main campus students, just show up at your testing facility, regional students will need to
schedule an appointment with their respective testing facility. Make-up exams are not entitled to
any curve or grade adjustment given to the students who took the exam when originally
scheduled.
Test Times and Dates: The exams must be completed and submitted no later than the end date
and time stated in the table below and you must be finished with the exam by the closing time of
the testing center, if earlier. You’ll have 120 minutes to complete each exam.

2. Seven out of the first Nine Homework assignments: Nine homework assignments are
completed through MyOMLab. The lowest two scores will be dropped. The seven highest
scores will be used for your class grade calculation.
Access to assignments is through MyOMLab through Webcourses (Click the link in the left hand
column--Homework).
For any technical problems with MyOMLab You must contact Pearson's MyOMLab help desk.
Only contact the class TAs and me if your have not found any resolution to your problem, after
contacting Pearson. They can be reached http://247pearsoned.custhelp.com/ or
myomlabhelp@gmail.com or by phone (UCF Line 1-855-875-1797) or (National Line 1-800677-6337).
If you are emailing us after you have contacted the Pearson MyOMLab help desk,
include your technical help reference number given to you by the Pearson help desk, and a
complete description of your problem, otherwise we cannot help you.
If you have general questions, there is a MyOMLab student user guide that is extremely
helpful and will provide answers to most of these
questions: http://www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com/northamerica/myomlab/students/support/
index.html
The due dates for the assignments can be found in the course schedule below, and on
Webcourses Assignment page and on the Homework page. There is no time limit to complete
the assignment once you start, they just have to be submitted before the due date and time. You
have two chances to complete each assignment. Make sure you learn how to complete two
chances. This usually means that you would select “Final Answer” twice. If you are attempting
two chances and MyOMLab or your computer/internet fails or you goofed up in some way and
you have already submitted an attempt, please do not contact us for another attempt. You are
entitled to one good opportunity to complete the assignment, so do the best you can on each of
your attempts. You’ll receive the highest score of your two attempts. Late assignments will not
be accepted for any reason. It is your responsibility to make sure you have your account set up
and that they are working prior to assignment due dates. If you wait until the last minute (last
day, etc.) to submit your assignment and you run into problems, you are out of luck.
3. Write-ups and Peer Review There are two write-ups and two peer reviews. Your peers will
grade these two papers (20 points each). Three students will review each paper, so the grade you
will receive for your paper will be the average of the three grades. You must turn in a paper to
receive papers to review. You must complete both tasks to receive points. If you don't write the
paper or do not submit a peer review, you will receive a zero "0" for the assignment.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: Attendance and participation in class activities are considered
integral parts of a university education. Attendance will not be part of your final grade; however
attending class is highly encouraged. You will have to complete a one-question attendance
verification question in the first week of class to satisfy financial aid requirements.
DISABILITY STATEMENTS: If you need accommodations in this course because of
disability, if you have emergency medical information to share with me, or if you need special
arrangements in case the building must be evacuated, please make me aware of this as soon as
possible.
ACADEMIC HONESTY: All work in this course must be completed in a manner consistent
with UCF Policy. Many incidents of plagiarism result from students’ lack of understanding about
what constitutes plagiarism. You are expected to familiarize yourself with UCF’s policy on
plagiarism. All work you submit must be your own scholarly and creative efforts. Academic
dishonesty can result in a lower grade and/or a failing grade for the course. UCF’s Golden Rule
defines plagiarism as follows: “whereby another's work is used or appropriated without any
indication of the source, thereby attempting to convey the impression that such work is the
student’s own.”

GRADING: Your performance in this course will be evaluated based on your cumulative
achievement, as indicated in the tables below. Check the class schedule below for all due
dates. It is your responsibility to check every grade for accuracy once it is posted online in your
Grades tab on Webcourses. Once the final exam closes, the class is over. There will not be any
additional grade conversations, extra credit or assignments to better your grade. You will have
one week from when each of your homework and exam grades (except final exam) are posted to
inquire about any inaccuracies regarding your grade.

CLASS ETIQUETTE: Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner, which is
conducive to learning. Inappropriate behavior is a distraction and shows a lack of respect for
your classmates and your instructor. Please refrain from making rude, offensive, or disrespectful
remarks either in class, via email or on discussion boards. In addition using laptops, cell phones,
tablets or other electronic devices for non-class related uses are inconsiderate and
