Press Release 8th October 2015 In commemoration of the 2015 Oriental Watch Sha Tin Trophy “Gentlemen’s Bow-tie Day”, Oriental Watch Company presents limited edition souvenirs combining elements of time and horseracing Fabric designs: (from left) by Suki Tusi, Ophelia Jacarini and Marc Allante) 2015 marks the fourth year of Oriental Watch Company’s sponsorship of the Sha Tin Trophy, and also the first edition of the “Gentlemen’s Bow-tie Day”. Ever since 18th century, horseracing has become a popular recreational and social event. Originated from Europe, it has gained popularity around the globe. Traditionally, people would dress up to attend the race day. First seen in the 17th century, bow-ties were adopted by the upper classes in Europe. It has since become an iconic element of gentlemen’s formal wear. In important social and sport event such as horseracing, bow-ties can make an appropriate element to a gentleman’s outfit. In celebration of the 2015 Oriental Watch Sha Tin Trophy “Gentlemen’s Bow-tie Day” to be held on 25th October at Sha Tin Racecourse, in which guests and the public are cordially invited to attend the races in attires graced with bow-ties or bow-related elements, Oriental Watch Company has invited three renowned designers Suki Tsui, Ophelia Jacarini and Marc Allante to design patterned fabrics that combine elements of time and horseracing for the bow-ties and fashionable gadgets to be produced in limited edition. These souvenirs will garnish the grand event with a touch of elegance. Hong Kong-based designer Suki Tsui has worked with world-renowned brands by the names of Arena, Puma, Champion, Disney, 6ixty 8ight, La Senza, and more, in which she has excelled in striving a balance between commercial elements and aesthetic pursuits. These experiences have equipped her to start her own company, THE DOT, in 2013. Geometric shapes and colourful expressions are her signature style. This time, Suki Tsui presents the complicated structures of watch movements and horses in simple silhouettes displaying purity and playfulness. The fabric garnished with both bright and dark colours brilliantly highlights the silhouette pattern. Suki’s work: (from left) Bow-tie, Boston Bag, Medium Clutch, Tote Bag, Card Holder, Square Cashmere Scarf, Twilly and Pocket Square Ophelia Jacarini, a Parisian illustrator that has travelled around the world, is known for her colourful illustration of the Nature, inspired by her travel experience and passion for Nature. Graduated from the Atelier Chardon Savard in Paris in 2010, she has worked for high fashion companies such as Princess tam.tam and John Galliano. At first sight, Ophelia Jacarini’s fabric seems to be a piece of abstract art with curly lines in high density. At a closer look, the fluid lines constitute a perspective that gives 3-dimensionality to the horses and movements. Thanks to her superb drawing skills, the muscles of the horses are well-constructed, revealing the purity of lines and strokes. Ophelia’s work: (from left) Bow-tie, Boston Bag, Medium Clutch, Tote Bag, Card Holder, Square Cashmere Scarf, Twilly and Pocket Square Raised in an artistic family, Marc Allante is a talented artist widely praised for his ingenious blend of traditional Chinese ink painting and European watercolour and pen techniques. Born in Hong Kong and has lived in Indonesia, Australia and England, his works have been featured internationally in publications including the Huffington Post, Next Media, Celebrity Nouveau, Trend Hunter. Demonstrating his expertise in ink painting, Marc Allante outlines the watch movement with refined and delicate brushstrokes and illustrates the horses in a wild gesture. Dense ink in the hair and the legs of the horses exhibits vibrancy and robustness in the galloping horses shuttling between movements. Thin ink showcasing mechanical subtlety provides a good contrast.
