~Mrs. Parziale’s Classy News~ September 15-19, 2014 Writing Most of the kids need to finish their Fall Writing Prompt on Monday. Some friends also need to finalize their Writers Notebooks. We will spend the rest of the week focusing on Personal Narratives to include identifying the parts that make up a personal narrative, coming up with “Stepping Stones” to use for a story, and dissecting personal narrative examples. By Friday the kids should begin their Rough Draft. Math Your child should have received a letter in his or her agenda on Friday with their new Math teachers name We will begin switching on Tuesday……..Mondays will be spent with our homeroom Math kids. On Monday, we will divide the kids into groups to practice place value; some on computers, whiteboards, and teacher led groups, etc. On Tuesday, the kids will switch for the first time. My Math class will have an entrance ticket to help guide instruction for the rest of the week. We will also work on a Math About Me page in our notebooks. The rest of the week will be a review of Place Value with a possible assessment on Friday. Please make sure your child is practicing his or her multiplication facts daily! Reading/Language Arts The kids will focus on 2 different reading strategies this week: Check for Understanding and Back Up and Reread. Each of these minilessons will have a follow up due by Friday. They will also continue to read for at least 30 minutes in class while practicing their strategies. Shared Reading this week we are focusing on dialogue and homophones….the kids will add their Shared Reading piece into that section of their notebook- great resource to practice fluency. Science/Social Studies We have been working through the Interactive Notebook for Virginia’s Geography. We will continue working through the notebook this week and read a few different Virginia Weekly papers as a partnership. I am planning a summative assessment for this unit around the 25th or 26th, I will let you know. We will complete a Penny Experiment this week as well and review the steps to the Scientific Method. Wordly Wise Spelling We will start Wordly Wise on Monday. The Wordly Wise Spelling Test will directly The kids will make flashcards for each Unit correlate with the Wordly Wise Units….we will that can/should go home for practice. We will start the first unit on September 15th which means also complete Lessons A and B this week. the first spelling test will be on September 26th. th The Summative will be on September 26 . The students can bring their WW Workbooks Please make sure your child knows how to home over the week/weekend but they must be use the words in context as well as the returned to school daily. definitions.
