Job Title Forensic Scientist - Forensic Biology Detailed Description Entry level position. Performs forensic science examination; including screening crime scene evidence, identification of biological evidence, conducting DNA PCR-based analysis and comparison of genetic DNA profiles from evidence-to-evidence, evidence-to-victim and/or evidence-tosuspect. Prepares reports of findings for use by the criminal justice system and testifies in court as an expert witness. Participates in the research and validation of new technologies, which may be implemented on casework evidence and presents scientific data at National and International meetings. Performs all related duties as assigned. Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Molecular Genetics or related area and must have successfully completed college coursework (graduate or undergraduate level) covering areas of Biochemistry, Genetics, and Molecular Biology (Molecular Genetics, Recombinant DNA Technology). In addition, coursework pertaining to population genetics as it pertains to statistics is essential. Must provide a DNA reference sample upon hire. General computer knowledge and a valid Florida driver's license also required. Transcripts must be submitted with the application. PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience in a forensic DNA caseworking or databasing laboratory, volunteer or internship experience within a crime laboratory, individuals with an advanced degree, and/or national certification in molecular biology from an approved certification body such as FEPAC or ABC.
