New Guinea - Susap
Susap (mouth harp) music has an “electronic” sounding timbre

as a resonator. In place of speech,
susap music is used as part of
courting rituals and is thought to
contain love-controlling magic.

Micronesia - Kiribati
Micronesia - Kiribati
Kiribati is the local pronunciation of “Gilbert,” the name of the
captain who ‘found’ the islands in 1788. Located in the
central tropical Pacific Ocean, they gained independence in
1979.
The group song is based around chanting and group singing,
using body percussion or a wooden box simultaneously struck
by those sitting around it. Themes include love, war, religion,
patriotism, and competition.

Hawai’i ’78 - Bruddah Iz
If just for a day our king and queen
would visit all these islands and saw everything
How would they 'bout the changing of our land
Could you just imagine if they were around
and saw highways on their sacred grounds
How would they feel if they 'bout this modern city life
Tears would come from each others eyes as
they would stop to realize
that our people are in great, great danger now
