Life in Jesus: Morality (Fall 2015) Mr. Schonhoff (mschonhoff@iwacademy.org) Website: http://iwaschonhoff.weebly.com LAP #3: Sexual Morality Essential Question: What is the Catholic understanding of sexuality? What does my own sexuality mean to me? Note: All Retakes and Late Assignments from LAP 2 will be due by the end of LAP 3. Failure to turn in late or missing work by the last class day on LAP 3 will result in a ZERO for that particular assignment – no exceptions. Overview: This LAP will investigate the Catholic Church’s teaching on sexuality and explore ways to apply it to contemporary life. We will explore what it means to develop an integrated sexuality that values each person as made in the image and likeness of God. We will also understand how a healthy understanding of sexuality is critical in our relationships with others. Ultimately, we will connect how our sexuality affects our body image, our relationships, and our identity. Rationale: We are all created in God’s image and are all sexual beings. Our sexuality plays into all of our human interactions. The Catholic Church has a rich heritage of teachings on sexuality that affirm the beauty of this gift. This LAP will explore the gift of sexuality on a theological and personal level. Learning Goals & Objectives To establish a comprehensive understanding of “sexuality” and study the Catholic Church’s teachings on sexuality and chastity To critically examine and analyze cultural biases about body image while developing a healthy perception of body image informed by Christian morality To understand the Catholic understanding of marriage and explore what constitutes a healthy relationship To explore the miracle of human life in the womb To discuss some major contemporary issues related to sexuality LAP 3 Summative Assessment 1.
