Mike Freeman, NY Times: The deal is valued at $6.4 million over four years and includes $1.5
million signing bonus.
Vinny DiTrani, Bergen Record: Agnew, one of the beneficiaries, reportedly received a $1.5
million signing bonus and salaries of $800,000, $1.2 million, $1.2 million, and $1.7 million. His
cost against the 1995 salary cap would be $1.175 million.
Vinny DiTrani, Bergen Record: Agnew is one player the Giants certainly will ask at least to take a
cut. He is scheduled to make $1.2 million in base salary this season, and figures to be a backup
player. His prorated signing bonus after a renegotiation in 1995 is $475,000 this year and next,
and $100,000 in 1999. Had the Giants cut him before June 1, that bonus would have been
escalated to $1.05 million this year, which means the Giant would have saved just $625,000 on
the move. By waiting until after June 1, the Giants save the full $1.2 million in his salary to add
to their cap room, which is around $500,000 now. Of course the remaining $575,000 of the
bonus will count against the 1998 cap. But since Agnew is scheduled to make an amazing $1.81
million next year, the savings still will be a substantial $1.235 million in 1998.
Luke Cyphers, NY Daily News: The 6-3, 285-pound defensive tackle a reserve the last two years
with the Giants who made the NFL veterans' minimum of $275,000 last season…

Andrew Brandt, NFP: a deal that includes the following for 2010: Signing Bonus: $250,000 45man active roster bonuses: $250,000 Salary: $1.25 million Cumulative playtime incentives: 50%:
$500,000 65%: $500,000 80%: $750,000 Thus, as a maximum Andrews could make $3.5 million
this season. He then has a roster bonus next year of $3.5 million when the Giants have to decide
if this was a one-year trial or a more serious commitment. Also in the contract is a “split”,
lowering Andrews’ salary this year to $650,000 in the event he is placed on injured reserve in
the first four games of the 2010 season. If he makes it through four games, the split goes away.
Mike Garafolo, Newark Star-Ledger: Andrews will earn only $1.5 million this upcoming season, if
he's healthy, in the form of a $1.25-million base salary and a $250,000 signing bonus. The bonus
is the only guaranteed money in the six-year contract. Andrews also has a split salary for this
upcoming season that reduces the salary to $650,000 if he's not on the active roster (i.e. injured
reserve). Now, here's where the significant commitment comes in: Andrews can earn over $30
million over the next five years of the deal.
It begins with a roster bonus of $3.5 million due on the 30th day of the league year next year.
That would be late March, providing everything works out with the collective bargaining
agreement. Andrews' 2011 base salary would be $3 million. He's also scheduled to earn a
workout bonus of $500,000. So that's $7 million for next season if all works out for Andrews.
The next four seasons of the deal, Andrews is scheduled to earn $4.5 million each year in base
salary. He also has $500,000 workout bonuses and $1 million in roster bonuses. That's $6 million
per season the rest of the way. In all, $32.5 million over six years.

Barry Meisel, NY Daily News: Armstead on Thursday received a signing bonus of $1.5 million for
a three-year, $5.5 million extension that will begin in 1997. He still will receive his $500,000
salary this year, then earn $1.1M, $1.45M and $1.45M from 1997-99.
Barry Meisel, NY Daily News: In return for reducing Armstead's 1997 salary from $1.1 million to
$200,000, the linebacker accepted a $1.5 million signing bonus and his three-year, $5.5 million
deal was restructured to a five-year, $10.6 million deal. He makes an extra $600,000, and the
Giants secure him for two more years and save $600,000 against the cap.
Luke Cyphers, NY Daily News: The five-year, $13 million restructuring adds a year to his previous
pact and puts his base salary on a par with those of the Giants' highest paid players... Armstead,
who was due to make $1.1 million this season, yesterday walked away from the Meadowlands
with a $1.5 million signing bonus, but he remains a bargain for the Giants.
Bill Pennington, NY Times: The total package, with a $6 million signing bonus, low initial base
salary and escalating payments at the contract’s end, is valued at $33 million across the seven
years. It makes Armstead the highest-paid Giant in average annual salary. But since Armstead’s
1999 base salary is now just $400,000, the deal also gives the Giants $1 million in salary cap
relief this year.

Mike Florio, PFT: The signing bonus, as reported, is only $5.25 million. The 2006 cap number is
$1.8 million, based on a $1.05 million signing bonus proration, a $650,000 base salary, and a
$100,000 workout bonus. First year earnings: $6 million. Or $1.6 million more than he gave up
to hit the market in March instead of July. The deal also contains up to $500,000 in 2006
incentives based on sacks, playing time, and playoffs. In 2007, Arrington is eligible for a roster
bonus of $2.25 million on the 15th day of the league year. Eligibility for the roster bonus is tied
to a playing-time threshold in 2006. There's another roster bonus worth $46,875 for each game
in which Arrington is active in 2006, with a maximum of $750,000. The base salary for 2007 is
$900,000. Arrington also has a $100,000 workout bonus, more than $1.1 million in incentives,
and an escalator of up to $1.5 million.
In 2008, the base salary spikes to $2.95 million. Also, Arrington is eligible for a roster bonus of
up to $450,000, based on $28,125 per active game in 2008. There's a $1.5 million roster bonus
based again on 2006 playing time, a $100,000 workout bonus, $500,000 in incentives, a $1
million Pro Bowl escalator if his 2007 escalator is not triggered, and up to $750,000 in additional
escalators. In 2009, the base salary shoots to $3.95 million. There's another per-game roster
bonus of $28,125, with a maximum haul of $450,000, a workout bonus of $100,000, up to
$500,000 in incentives, and an escalator of up to $1 million. In 2010, the base pay goes to $4.95
million. The other terms from 2009 are the same, with the maximum escalator at $1.25 million.
In 2011, the base salary is $5.45 million, with the same terms from 2009 and 2010. The
maximum escalator is $1.75 million. In 2012, the terms are the same as in 2011, but the base
moves to $5.95 million.

Ralph Vacchiano, NY Daily News: According to the FoxSports.com report, the Giants not only
withheld bonus money from Burress, but they’re looking to to hit his potential earnings, too —
including 14 escalators in his contract that they feel he shouldn’t be able to earn. Back in
December, after a review of Burress’ contract, the Daily News reported that he could lose $27
million of what could have been a five-year, $35 million contract.
That included reporting bonuses of $500,000 in 2009 and $1 million each in 2010-12; a roster
bonus of $2.925 million in 2009 and $925,000 each in 2010-12; and offseason workout bonuses
of $325,000 in 2009-2012. His deal also contained incentives that could have increased his salary
by $1.25 million in 2009 and 2010, and $2.5 million in 2011 and 2012.
The incentives in Burress’ contract are complicated and broken down to escalators and
performance bonuses — both of which can not be received in the same year. For example, he
would’ve gotten the entire amount of the incentives in 2009 as a “peformance bonus” if he had
70 catches, 1025 yards and 12 touchdowns in both 2008 and 2009. He would’ve also earned the
2010 incentive by repeating those totals that year. And he would’ve earned both the 2011 and
2012 incentives if he could’ve totalled 36 receiving touchdowns from 2008-10. In all cases he
was required to be on the roster at the start of those league years. He was also required to
participate in mini-camps, training camp, not skip out on work, and not get fined or suspended
by the team or the NFL more than once.
Since he’s already been fined by the team far more than once and suspended twice, that’s the
likely argument the Giants have laid out to prevent Burress from ever reaching those incentives.
The same “behavioral” provisions apply for his “salary escalators,” though breakdown of stats
for the incentive clauses is more specific. For example 71 catches last year would’ve increased
his 2009 salary by $200,000. He would’ve gotten another $150,000 for 85 catches. The
threshhold for the same “escalators” for yards were 1,075 and 1,300. And for touchdowns it was
8 and 13. There was also a $200,000 Pro Bowl bonus. He had the same incentives for 2010
(based on the 2009 season), 2011 (based on 2010) and 2012 (based on 2011).
Mike Florio, PFT: The contract, initially reported as a five-year, $35 million package, actually has
a base value of $30 million, and includes $5 million in performance escalators. Of the $30
million, more than $5 million is tied to Burress being on the active roster for each regular-season
game, and $3.5 million is tied to fully participating in minicamps and training camps.
The deal also includes a signing bonus of $4.25 million, and his 2008 base salary is now
essentially guaranteed, since he is a vested veteran and was on the opening-day roster.
Vacchiano: The NFL Network reported that his deal includes $5 million in escalators - clauses
that will raise some of those salaries if he hits certain performance levels - another $3.5 million
in bonuses for participating in minicamps and training camps, and a $4.25 million signing bonus.
Drew Rosenhaus, who negotiated the deal, also said Burress has about $1 million worth of
bonuses over the life of the deal for participating in a certain amount of the Giants’ offseason
program. Rosenhaus also said that $11 million of the deal is guaranteed.
Peter King, SI: The Giants can cut or trade Burress after the season and simply eliminate $23
million of the $27-million-in-new-money deal he signed with the Giants. In effect, as I said on
NBC last night, when I examine the deal, I see the contract totally on the come. And the first big
test of this contract will come on Dec. 10, when Burress is due $1 million from the original and
only guaranteed money in the deal, the third installment of a $4.325-million signing bonus when
he signed. Let me break down all of the non-guaranteed money in the Burress deal that makes it
absolutely simple for the Giants to cut the cord with him after the season:
Non-guaranteed base salaries: $11.5 million ($1 million in 2009, $3.5 million in 2010, $3.5
million in 2011, $3.5 million in 2012).
Non-guaranteed one-time bonus to be paid early in the '09 off-season: $2 million.
Non-guaranteed roster bonuses: $3.5 million ($500,000 in '09, $1 million in 2010, $1 million in
2011, $1 million in 2012).
Non-guaranteed escalators, payable only on high performance: $5 million ($1.25 million in '09,
'10, '11, '12.) He has not reached his escalators yet that would kick in for 2009.
Non-guaranteed workout bonuses: $1.3 million ($325,000 in '09, '10, '11, '12).
Burress also has a clause in his contract that could come into play and cost him $400,000 this
year. For every game he's ineligible to play in because of non-injury reasons, he doesn't earn a
$100,000 per game roster bonus.
Ralph Vacchiano, NY Daily News: Burress did earn about $8 million from the Giants in 2009 (a
$3.25 million salary, a $4.25 million signing bonus and a $250,000 roster bonus). But here’s what
he threw away:
$11.5 million in salaries ($1 million in 2009, $3.5 million in each of the next three years).
$5.7 million in roster bonuses ($2.925 million this year and $925,000 in each of the next three
years). Roster bonuses, by the way, are basically behavioral clauses that insist players don’t
engage in dangerous physical activity (bungee jumping, water skiing, riding a motorcycle, etc.),
do drugs, or do anything that causes them to get suspended for “conduct detrimental” to the
team or suspended by the league. If they comply with that and are on the roster in each of
those years, they get the bonus.
$1.3 million in workout bonuses ($325,000 per year), for showing up at the offseason program
(OK, he was obviously never going to get these, but they were available if he was interested).
That’s $18.5 million for the next four years for simply showing up and doing his job. He didn’t
even have to do it well, he just had to be there and behave. No, the contract wasn’t guaranteed.
The Giants could have cut him at any time. But if they didn’t — and there was no reason to think
they would have — Burress didn’t have to do anything at all on the field to get that money.
None of that $18.5 million was tied to performance.
Also lost to Burress were $7.1 million in salary escalators and incentives ($1.05 million in 2009
and 2010, $2.5 million in 2011 and 2012), which would’ve increased his salaries or added to his
bonus total, that were tied to performance. He had already missed a few, especially after a
terrible statistical year in 2008, but there were more to come.

John Clayton, ESPN: The Giants recently ripped up the former left guard's old contract and
rewarded him with a new six-year, $31 million contract. The key to the deal is annual escalator
clauses that increase Diehl's salaries between $750,000 and $1.1 million a year as long as he
plays offensive tackle. It's rare for a team to redo a long-term deal toward the beginning of the
contract. Diehl was entering the third year of a six-year, $15.5 million extension he signed in
2005 that was scheduled to expire in 2011.
Mike Garafolo, Newark Star-Ledger: Diehl is scheduled to earn a base salary of $3.5 million next
season. However, he has a three-tiered escalator for that salary tied to the number of starts he
makes at left tackle this season. The first level is $250,000 for five starts, which has obviously
already been earned. The next level is $500,000 for 10 starts, which means he needs three
more. The highest level is $750,000 for 15 starts. Given his start at left guard on Sunday, Diehl
would have to start all eight remaining games at left tackle to reach that top level. In addition to
earning the highest level for next season, 15 starts at left tackle would also provide Diehl a
chance to earn an increased incentive for the final two years of his deal (2012-13). That threetiered incentive increases to $375k/$750k/$1.125m. But if he doesn't reach the highest level of
this year's escalator, he gets locked out of the increased incentives.
Mike Garafolo, Newark Star-Ledger: Diehl has lowered his base salary from $4.2 million to $1.2
million, thus creating $1.5 million in cap space this season… He simply converted $3 million of
his base salary into a signing bonus. No money lost for Diehl.
Brian McIntyre, Yahoo Sports: Diehl has lowered his $4.475 million base salary to $1 million and
the $250,000 in "per game" roster bonus and his $100,000 workout bonus Diehl was scheduled
to earn have been eliminated. The restructured deal reduces Diehl's 2013 cap number to $3.125
million, a cap savings of $3.778 million. Of Diehl's $1 million base salary, $200,000 is fully
guaranteed.

Mike Garafolo, Newark Star-Ledger: Dodge got a four-year, $1.849-million contract with a
signing bonus of $59,425. He has a few escalators for 2013. The first is for an additional $583k if
he has a 44-yard gross average, 38-yard net average or 24 punts inside the 20-yard line any two
seasons. He also has one for an additional $350k if he records the above figures and is named to
a Pro Bowl any one season.
If Dodge hits either escalator, he can also get an additional $25k for 2013 for each year he
participates in 90 percent of the team's workouts and another $75k if he hits the 90-percent
mark for each of the first three years of the workout. So if I'm doing this right (I think I am), it
looks like he has a chance to make an additional $1.083 million for 2013 with solid performances
the first couple of years with the team.

Mike Garafolo, Newark Star-Ledger: SIGNING BONUS: $2 million BASE SALARIES: $1.75 million
(2011), $4 million* (2012) WORKOUT BONUS: $250,000 in 2012 ROSTER BONUSES: $300,000 in
each of the two seasons *$500,000 of Kiwanuka's 2012 base salary is guaranteed. But my
understanding is that doesn't mean a whole lot because, should Kiwanuka get hurt again this
season, he's covered by the new $1-million injury protection clause in the new CBA. The way it
was explained to me, the $1 million would swallow the $500,000.
Aaron Wilson, Scout.com: Kiwanuka has signed a three-year, $21.75 million contract extension,
according to a league source. The contract includes an $8.5 million signing bonus with $10.95
million in total guaranteed money. His base salaries of $950,000 and $2.95 million over the next
two seasons are fully guaranteed for skill, injury and salary cap. In 2014, his base salary goes up
to $4.375 million. In 2015, the final year of the deal, his base salary rises to $4.775 million. Those
salaries aren't guaranteed. The deal includes $1.5 million in incentives in 2012 based on sacks
and playing time. There's also a $1 million escalator clause triggered by Kiwanuka's sacks. The
deal has annual $50,000 workout bonuses.
Mike Florio, Scout.com: Kiwanuka will receive $10.95 million fully guaranteed. That comes from
an $8.5 million signing bonus, a $950,000 fully-guaranteed base salary, and $1.5 million in fullyguaranteed base salary for 2013. The total base salary for 2013 is $2.95 million. In 2014,
Kiwanuka is due to earn a base salary of $4.375 million. In the final year of the deal, Kiwanuka is
scheduled to receive a base salary of $4.775 million. There’s a $50,000 workout bonus in each
year of the deal, and an escalator of up to $1 million tied to sacks in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Jenny Vrentas, Newark Star-Ledger: Kiwanuka signed a simple restructure of his contract last
Thursday, converting an already guaranteed $1.5 million portion of his 2013 base salary to a
signing bonus. Kiwanuka will not lose any money from the three-year extension he signed last
spring, but this change drops his cap number this season by $1 million (from $5.125 million to
$4.125 million). Kiwanuka's cap number does go up slightly in 2014 (from $6.55 million to $7.07
million) and 2015 (from $6.95 million to $7.45 million) as a result of the restructure.
Tom Pelissero, USA Today: Kiwanuka's base salary dropped from $4.375M to $1.5M. He also
gets a new $700K roster bonus, can earn back $125K in incentives.

Liz Mullen, Sports Business Journal: Here’s what Manning really got: - A $3 million signing bonus.
- A $9 million option bonus, which the team will pay in 2005 to extend the deal to the 2010
season. - A $5 million buyback bonus, which the team will pay in the second or third year of the
contract to buy back two years of the deal. - A $3 million bonus in incentives that are deemed
“not likely to be earned” under the NFL collective-bargaining agreement… But Manning’s $20
million in guaranteed dollars is real, even though it is not paid in one lump sum, said sources
with the Giants. If, for example, the Giants cut Manning before his first professional game, he
would receive all of his salary for 2004 through 2009 — which adds up to $17 million — plus $3
million in signing bonus.
Len Pasqarelli, ESPN: There is a one-time conditional roster bonus, due in 2007, of $3 million.
That bonus, which brings the total bonus money to $15 million, is earned if Manning participates
in 35 percent of the offensive snaps as a rookie, or 45 percent in either 2005 or 2006. The bonus
must be paid by the 30th day of the league year.
Arthur Staple/Bob Glauber, Newsday: the Giants gave him a $5 million buy-back bonus, as well
as a $3 million roster bonus. His base salary for the 2007 season will be $6.45 million. It
increases to $8.45 million in 2008 and $8.95 million in 2009. The six-year, $54 million deal in
July, 2004, but the deal would have voided after four seasons because Manning had achieved
play-time incentives in his first season.
Liz Mullen, Sports Business Journal: Manning reeled in an additional $1.5 million in total
incentives based on victories at the various levels of the playoffs. He made $250,000 for winning
at the wild-card level, $500,000 in the divisional round, $250,000 for the conference title, and
another $500,000 for the Super Bowl.
Jason Cole, Yahoo: The additional six years are worth a total of $97.5 million in new money, but
some agents had wondered about the guaranteed portion of the deal… The deal is structured so
that Manning will receive $20.5 million this year. By the end of the 2010 season, he will have
made $40 million and by the end of 2011 he will have made a total of $49 million.
Mike Garafalo, Newark Star-Ledger: SIGNING BONUS: $13 million
OPTION BONUS: $12.5 million (2010 is the option year)
BASE SALARIES: 2009: $7.5 million (fully guaranteed) 2010: $6.5m (injury guarantee) 2011:
$8.5m ($7.5m injury guarantee)
WORKOUT BONUSES: $500k per year from 2010-15
There are other bonuses for Pro Bowl, Super Bowl, playoff victories and other incentives, but I
don't have those on hand yet.
Mike Garafolo, Newark Star-Ledger: the Giants guaranteed $9 million of Manning's $10.75million base salary for the 2012 season, which allows the team to spread the cap hit over the
remaining four years of his contract. Manning's new base salary is $1.75 million. Manning's
2012 cap number shrunk from $16.35 million to $9.6 million…

The 24-year-old Marshall walked out of a minicamp for one day last May because of a dispute

original four-year contract, with the Giants holding an option for 1987. The extension covers
1987, 1988 and 1989 and gives the Giants an option for 1990. It also provides for a signing

Jenny Vrentas, Newark Star-Ledger: Rogers returned to the Giants on a one-year deal worth
$1.005 million, but it is also a split contract to protect the team against injury. Rogers' contract
has a $20,000 signing bonus, a $45,000 weight bonus and a base salary of $940,000, but the split
lowers his salary to $433,000 if he lands on injured reserve. Rogers spent the 2012 season on IR
with a blood clot in his leg. Rogers' base salary counts just $555,000 against the cap because of
the veteran minimum salary benefit rule.

$150k I don't have the exact details of the LTBE bonuses, but since they're deemed "likely to be

contract for the fourth-year defensive end includes a $ 3.5 million signing bonus. It also

Paul Schwartz, New York Post: the Giants believed they had something at defensive end in
Strahan, and in 1996 handed him a four-year, $12.2 million contract… the Giants entered a new
contract stratosphere by signing him to a four-year, $32 million deal that includes a $12 million
signing bonus.
Buster Olney, NY Times: Strahan agreed to a seven-year, $46 million contract… Strahan will get a
$6.4 million signing bonus -- $3.5 million of which was coming to him under the terms of the old
contract -- and base salaries of $4.5 million for this year, $9 million next year and $6.35 million
in 2004… The contract also includes clauses that reduce Strahan's salary if he does not reach 10
sacks annually in the third and fourth years of the deal.
Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: The contract Strahan signed on Monday paid a $6.4 million signing bonus
and also base salaries of $5 million (2002), $9 million (2003), $6.3 million (2004) and $5.3

Frank Litsky, NY Times: Taylor and the Giants agreed yesterday on a two-year, $5.05 million
contract that will keep the 34-year-old Taylor with the team… Taylor would receive salaries of
$2.25 million each year plus a $550,000 signing bonus. In addition, Rosner said, the contract
includes reachable incentive clauses based on team and individual achievements and selection
to the Pro Bowl… there are indications that the incentives are worth about $200,000.

Cap numbers 2012: $2 million 2013: $3m 2014: $6.1m 2015: $7.05m… Those incentives not
currently counted by the union in the base value of the deal are $3.25 million in roster bonuses
plus $7 million in those playing-time and interception incentives.
Jenny Vrentas, Newark Star-Ledger: The Giants gave Terrell Thomas another chance to return to
the field following a third ACL surgery, and they did so with a one-year minimum contract that
includes playing-time incentives… Thomas' base salary is $630,000, the minimum for his
experience level, which also includes a split of $358,000, i.e. a lesser value to be earned if he
lands on injured reserve for a third straight year. Thomas received a $35,000 signing bonus and
has a $35,000 workout bonus, and he can earn up to $500,000 in playing-time incentives -though it's unclear what the triggers are for that money.

Vinny DiTrani, Bergen Record: Toomer received a four-year contract worth $11.2 million,

Ralph Vacchiano, NY Daily News: they reworked Toomer's contract, giving him a combined

roughly $14.8 million, including $4.4 million in total compensation for 2004. The Giants instead
negotiated a new five-year contract, through 2008, and the value is $20.66 million. For the new
contract, which saves the Giants just over $2 million on their '04 salary cap, Toomer banked an
$8 million signing bonus. His base salaries are $660,000 (for 2004), $1.9 million (2005), $2.4

Ralph Vacchiano, NY Daily News: Webster did indeed agree to a hefty cut in pay this year from
$7.25 million ($7 million in salary and a $250,000 workout bonus) to $4 million, but it turns out
it wasn’t just a straight cut in salary… His new deal – according to multiple NFL sources -includes a $1.25 million salary for 2013, plus a $250,000 workout bonus, plus a $2.5 million
restructuring/signing bonus. So he will, indeed, earn $4 million this year. But the Giants also
added a “voidable” year to his contract – much like they did with Osi Umenyiora when he
agreed to a restructured contract one year ago. Officially, Webster is listed as having a $1 million
salary in 2014, but the deal has an automatic trigger that guarantees that year will be voided
and he will be an unrestricted free agent next March.

Gary Myers, NY Daily News: Wheatley, the Giants' No. 1 pick who kept holding out despite
everybody in his first-round neighborhood agreeing to deals, signed a five-year, $5.225-million
contract yesterday and arrived in training camp last night… Wheatley, the 17th pick, received a
$2.3-million signing bonus the highest in Giants history and base salaries of $390,000, $487,500,
$585,000, $682,500 and $780,000. His salary cap number for 1995 is $850,000. He has a creative
incentive package very rare in this year's draft that could earn him another $2.2 million during
the length of the deal, very large considering teams are straying away from incentives. Some of
the incentives include money for making the Pro Bowl, rushing yards and touchdowns.

Mike Freeman, NY Times: Williams's contract was for one year at $475,000.
Vinny DiTrani, Bergen Record: They then moved to retain center Brian Williams with a threeyear, $4.44 million (not $5.44 million, as originally reported) deal.
Larry Weisman, USA Today: Williams' new deal is $4.44 million for three years, with a $525,000
signing bonus.
Mike Freeman, NY Times: Williams's deal is four years and worth about $5.9 million. He received
a $1.85 million signing bonus, the highest of any player on the team. But his base salary for the
first year is only $300,000 and for the second year only $900,000. The third and fourth years, his
base salary is $1.45 million.
NY Times: He accepted a $2.3 million signing bonus in return for reducing his 1997 salary to
$200,000 and extending his contract through 2001. The breakdown: $200,000 in 1997; $1.55
million in '98; $1.9 million in '99; $2 million in 2000, and $2.3 million in 2001.
Steve Popper, NY Times: he reworked his salary of about $2 million down to the league
minimum of $305,000 for 1998.
Vinny DiTrani, Bergen Record: Cutting any offensive lineman might be a risk, however, until the
Giants learn whether Brian Williams will return in 2000. The veteran center also has a roster
bonus ($500,000) due him March 1 and has to make his decision by then.

Vinny DiTrani, Bergen Record: the Giants would be able to save $1.1 million if they released him
after June 1 compared with just $100,000 if he were cut before that date. On the flip side, they
would save only $950,000 off their 2000 cap instead of the $1.95 million they would have
regained if Wooten's proration had ended this season.
