Sliding down the crater!
The Tiscapa canopy tour is one of the best kept exciting secrets right
in the city center of Managua.

The Masaya Volcano National Park comprises an area of 54 km² and includes two volcanoes and five craters.
The volcanoes have erupted several times in history, and were feared by both the indigenous people and the
Spanish conquerors.
The Spanish baptized the active volcano "La Boca del Infierno" or "The Mouth of Hell". They planted a
cross, "La Cruz de Bobadilla" (named after Father Francisco Bobadilla), on the crater lip in the 16th century
in order to exorcise the Devil.
The eruptions have had a dramatic impact on the surroundings. Rocks and volcanic ashes still cover the area
surrounding the volcanoes. The nature is rough yet peaceful. Different types of vegetation appeared after the
eruptions.
Visitors can peek over the edge at the Masaya Volcano, and look into the impressive crater, which is
continuously emitting smoke and sulfur gases. From this central crater it is possible to start hiking to other
craters or viewpoints

It is a region composed of several little charming towns with strong pre-Columbian roots and
traditions. The name “Pueblos Blancos” (or white towns in English) comes from the colonial times
when people from this region used to paint the little adobe houses with quicklime.

point of the lagoon, as well as for its nurseries.
The viewpoint of Catarina is one of the highest hills surrounding the
Apoyo Lagoon, and the view from there is superb. You can see the
whole lagoon as well as Lake Nicaragua behind it. The Mombacho
volcano borders the lake and is also prominently present
There are also some souvenir shops around the viewpoint where you
can buy some locally produced handcrafts.
Catarina is also known for its fertile soil and it is a hotspot of
nurseries. There are many small outside shops where trees, plants,
palms, and other garden-material is being sold. People come even
from Managua to buy there plants here.

San Juan del Oriente
is one of the most important villages of the “white towns” in the region of
Masaya.
This former “Chorotega”town and its friendly people have been able to preserve their deep rooted
indigenous traditions through fine elaborate clay works.
The main entrance of the town is marked by a series of colorful souvenirs shops where all different kind of
fascinating clay art is exhibited.
Today approximately 95% out of five thousand people living in San Juan de Oriente make their living from
such an important tradition.
As you explore the town you will find in backyards of houses entire families working, young males spinning
potter wheels shaping clay into pieces of arts, young ladies polishing with sea stones fresh ceramic, other
members of the families designing and carving, and also taking care of the kiln. Learn the complex process
involved in creating this traditional art form.

Las Isletas of Granada.
Situated at the foot of the impressive Mombacho Volcano, Las Isletas consist of around 365 small volcanic
islands which were formed when the Mombacho Volcano erupted about 20,000 years ago. Today, many of

The canopy tour is located only five minutes from the popular beach town San Juan del Sur.
The tour offers 2.5 kilometers of zip-line in a rural setting where nature prevails.
The canopy tour starts at the top of one of the hills, from where you have a superb view of the bay of San
Juan del Sur and its surroundings. This tour consists of 16 cables that are connected through 17 platforms,
most of them located up in the trees. There are many different cables, including slow, fast, short, and long
parts. The longest cable is 328 meters; the highest one passes over a canyon measuring 70 meters deep; and
at the fastest one you can reach a speed of 70 kilometers per hour!
The canopy tour is located on the border of a farm at the foot of a hill. Nature is abundant in the area, and
if you are lucky, you will see animals including monkeys, raccoons, birds, and other animals.
