Why is this Important?
• July 19th 1979 is the Day the Sandinista
Soldiers marched into the Capitol and
gathered to celebrate the overthrow of the
Somoza dictatorship.
• This is the anniversary of the day the National
Liberation Army declared dictatorship over the
Somoza dictatorship.
• On July 19th he stood at Managua Revolution
Square to fight for their county. They didn't
want to see the county be ran by someone
who would treat the people like guinea pigs.

• The largest public event of the Nicaragua year.
• People crowd into and on top of buses in
Nicaragua to make their way to the plaza in
Managua.
• This day is celebrated like our Independence
Day.
