Watch It Grow
In this unit the students explore living things and
consider that all species share in the same cycle
of growth, change, reproduction and death.
Writing –Students will produce informative,
imaginative and persuasive texts connected to the
literacy unit Our World that is based around the core
texts– Mr Chicken goes to Paris - Leigh Hobbs and The
Peasant Prince - Li Cunxin.
Computer Studies – Developing computer
literacies:
 Safe and responsible use of the internet
 Microsoft PowerPoint
 Searching for webpages/information
 iPads
Spelling – using the principles of THRASS to develop
spelling and vocabulary skills and understandings of a
range of vowel and consonant phonemes. Word lists
based on high frequency words, THRASS chart words
and theme-based words.
Grammar, Punctuation and Vocabulary – review
and/or explanation and use of the following grammatical
and punctuation concepts:
 Articles
 Adjectives of number
 Direct Speech
Speaking and Listening:
 Preparation for our Performing Arts night, The
Button Box.
 Impromptu and planned opportunities for students
to participate in class discussions across all KLAs.
Health and Personal Development
Year 6 students conduct a Peer Support Program
called Living Positively. The students will develop
their skills and abilities to develop their ability to
be happy, productive, resilient and thankful
citizens.
Creative and Practical Arts
Students will explore and practice a range of
techniques to enable them to create artworks
connected to the Literacy unit Our World, and
various artworks for the Travelling Art Show and
the All Saints’ Festival of Art.
