Position Title: Director of Career Services Department Name: Supervisors Title: FLSA Code: Exempt Position Summary The Director of Career Services provides a variety of programs to assist students at all stages of their development to make appropriate career choices and plans. Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services, the Director of Career Services provides student-centered leadership and direction in the following areas: career counseling and education, employment and internship assistance, career assessment testing, the dissemination of information related to employment opportunities, and employer relations. The Director of Career Services is also an integral part of Alumni Relations, working with volunteer councils to design and implement programs and services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides resources to assist students in conducting effective employment searches. Provides opportunities for students to connect with potential employers. Recruit and support alumni constituent groups. Plan and organize special events. Facilitate relationships with the campus and surrounding community for alumni reunions and career services. Participate in budgeting, contribution to publications and online resources, and is a team member for all alumni programs and events. Network with faculty to help with job placements. Design and implement new and innovative career services for online and hybrid models of classes, and the development and production of online workshops and webinars. Director of Career Services February 2016 (Revised) Supervisory Responsibilities Position Requirements Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree required 2-4 years of experience in career services, higher education or counseling Skills – Technical Superior counseling and advising skills. Thorough working knowledge of labor market trends, occupational information, career assessment tools, and job search strategies. Skills – General Must be a hands-on, self-directed, organized and conscientious individual Strong time management and organizational skills in a dynamic, constantly changing environment Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries, customer/student inquiries or complaints as well as communicate effectively both orally and in writing with management, peers and individuals Ability to work effectively, exhibit a professional manner and establish constructive working relationships Attention to detail and quality focus. Work Environment The essential functions of the job are usually performed in an environmentally controlled facility where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may involve working in a combination of office and classroom environments. While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
