Fellowship Trainees (SOMSRFT)
2010-2011 Advocacy Campaign

Overview
 Childhood obesity is a rising epidemic
 30% of the pediatric population has a BMI of 30% or
greater
 Co-morbidities: diabetes, asthma, cardiovascular
disease, low self-esteem, depression
2
Overview
In February 2010, the AAP teamed up with the White
House, Bright Futures, & other national organizations
to reverse childhood obesity, and launched the AAP
Obesity Initiative and “Let’s Move!” Campaign.
Together they made the ambitious goal to
reverse childhood obesity within a generation,
to give children born today a healthier future
tomorrow.
