Course Description and Objectives: The course is an overview of business law. After taking this class, you should be: (1) discuss the foundations, history, philosophy and principles of the American legal system; (2) apply Constitutional, Administrative, Statutory, and Case Law/Common Law as it pertains to current situations in business through students' understanding of legal principles and practices, and (3) brief, examine and report on legal case studies. Homework and Participation: Homework assignments will be assigned if I get the sense that you are not reading in advance for class. Attendance: Woody Allen said that Showing Up is 80% of life. I strongly agree with him. So show up. Be on time. Participate. You get 100 points for attendance. I will deduct 10 points for every time you are absent. You get the first absence without a deduction. So, if you miss class 3 times during the semester, you will get 80 points for attendance. Dropping: You are solely responsible for dropping this class should you decide you no longer wish to attend. Though I may drop you if you quit coming to class and basically disappear, ultimately this is your responsibility. If you are still enrolled at the end of the semester and have not done the work then I am left with no choice but to fail you. I hate doing it. So please make sure you are doing the 1 things necessary to keep your enrollment status current. If something happens along the way and you are going to miss numerous classes and want to stay in the class, please contact me. Parking Permits: Student parking permits are NO LONGER sold nor issued on campus. Student parking permits are now available for purchase on-line. Go to www.orangecoastcollege.edu to order your parking permit. Parking permits are required to park in all non-metered student parking areas at Orange Coast College. Ticketing of these areas begins the third week of the semester. Conduct Code: Orange Coast College has a Conduct Code, which includes an Academy Honesty Policy. It applies to this class as well. If you are disruptive, you will be referred to OCC administration for further action. Also, no smoking within 20 feet of the front door.
