Out-of-network benefits may vary. IMPORTANT to remember: Lab tests related to an illness or condition – such as diabetes or asthma – are not considered preventive and are covered under applicable deductible and coinsurance levels. Because these tests feel “routine” to the member, this can cause confusion 5 January 2013 Women’s Preventive Services On August 1, 2011, HHS announced the adoption of HRSA-supported women’s preventive services guidelines developed by the Institute of Medicine. Non-grandfathered plans have until plan/policy years beginning on or after August 1, 2012 to implement the new coverage requirements. The new guidelines expanded on the coverage of women’s preventive services required of non-grandfathered health plans without cost sharing, including: o ·well-woman visits o ·screening for gestational diabetes o ·human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing for women 30 years and older o ·sexually-transmitted infection counseling o ·human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) screening and counseling o ·FDA-approved contraception methods and counseling o ·breastfeeding support, supplies, and counseling o ·interpersonal and domestic violence screening and counseling 6 What’s Preventive, What’s Not?
