Please use correct grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling when communicating. If your email is difficult to read, it may be returned to you for corrections. Sending email from an account other than your TCC email means that your message may end up in my Junk E-Mail folder. This will delay my reading your email and could even cause me to miss your message. Next Course(s) in Sequence: Determined by your course of study CATALOG DESCRIPTION Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) will be presented along with the introductory principles of website design. Projects will include the creation of a variety of different types of web pages and websites, advocating accessibility and efficiency principles and techniques. Prerequisite: CSCI 1203. 2 TEXTBOOK AND COURSE MATERIALS: The following materials may be purchased at the campus bookstore and will be used throughout the semester. Computer Media You should have some means of backing up your work. If you are working on your own computer that has an automatic backup system such as Carbonite or Mozy, just make sure that your assignments are included in the periodic backups. Otherwise, you may use a USB flash drive to periodically make a copy of your work. Please note: You should always keep a backup copy of every assignment you complete!!! For some of the assignments and exercises, you will be using files that are already created. Directions on getting these files will be provided to you. If you have any questions, please see me. Antivirus and other security software is strongly recommended if you are using your HOME computer. You should have antivirus, anti-spyware, and other security software. This may be purchased commercially or you may use free security software. Please be careful when choosing free software!!! There are several reliable choices for free such as Avira, Free AVG, and Avast antivirus software. Use HTML tags to create headings, paragraphs, lists, and insert special characters, horizontal lines, and graphic images 4. Create Web pages using HTML5 elements 5. Use hypertext links to connect to local and external Web pages and to other Internet resources 6. Add color to your Web pages 7. Work with common image formats and position images on your Web pages 8. Create image maps 9. Use CSS inline styles and embedded and linked style sheets 10. Create tables, nested tables and join (span) rows and columns within a table 11. Apply CSS for special effects, print media and mobile Web pages 12. Create forms 13. Add multimedia to your website. 14. Understand the syntax for valid HTML5 15. Understand basic JavaScript syntax and common commands 16. For campus sections, class will consist of class discussion, lecture and hands-on practice creating Web pages. ATTENDANCE Regular class attendance (participation for online courses) is essential to success. If you have missed the equivalent of two weeks of classes and have not communicated with me, an Excessive Absence notice may be issued. This report will automatically notify the Financial Aid and Veterans Services offices, if applicable. You may also be subject to Administrative Withdrawal (AW) for non-attendance. Check the TCC Academic Calendar for the deadline that applies to the course(s). Begin the process with a discussion with the faculty member assigned to the course. Contact the Advisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course ('W' grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Withdrawal and/or change to an audit from a course after the drop/add period can alter the financial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students may receive an outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation leaves a balance due to TCC. Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of “F,” which may have financial aid consequences for the student. 5 AUDIT AND INCOMPLETE POLICY To request a change to Audit (A) or Incomplete (I), you must be maintaining a passing grade. You must initiate the change with me and sign the audit or incomplete agreement. If the Incomplete is due to a circumstance that prevents you from being able to sign the form yourself, I will make other arrangements to have the paperwork completed. Incompletes are granted only if the student has encountered unusual circumstances. The last date to withdraw or change to audit for the current semester is listed at the end of this syllabus. COMMUNICATIONS Email communications: All TCC students receive a designated “MyTCC” email address (ex: jane.doe@tulsacc.edu). All email communications to you will be sent to your MyTCC email address; and you must use MyTCC email to send email to, and receive email from, the instructor regarding this course. Inclement Weather: TCC rarely closes. If extreme weather conditions or emergency situations arise, TCC always gives cancellation notices to radio and television stations. This information is also posted on the TCC website (www.tulsacc.edu). INCLEMENT WEATHER I live 45 minutes north of campus. If weather is such that I am unable to make it to class, I will try to place a message on my voice mail – 595-7758 and will also post a note to our Blackboard class site provided we have electricity. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY Academic dishonesty (cheating) is defined as the deception of others about one’s own work or about the work of another. Academic dishonesty or misconduct is not condoned or tolerated at campuses within the Tulsa Community College system. Tulsa Community College adopts a policy delegating certain forms of authority for disciplinary action to the faculty. Such disciplinary actions delegated to the faculty include, but are not limited to, the dismissal of disrespectful or disorderly students from classes. In the case of academic dishonesty a faculty member may: Require the student to redo an assignment or test, or require the student to complete a substitute assignment or test; Record a "zero" for the assignment or test in question; Recommend to the student that the student withdraw from the class, or administratively withdraw the student from the class; Record a grade of "F" for the student at the end of the semester. PLEASE NOTE THAT IDENTICAL OR SIGNIFICANTLY SIMILAR ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ASSUMED TO BE COPIED. Faculty may request that disciplinary action be taken against a student at the administrative level by submitting such request to the Dean of Student Services. CLASS DISRUPTIONS A class disruption is defined as "shifting the instructional focus to someone other than the instructor." Reading in class, sleeping in class, use of cell phones, speaking out inappropriately, walking in and out of the classroom, consistently coming late to class, or provocative dress or actions may be considered disruptive. Disruptive students are interfering with the learning process for all the other students in the class. If a disruption affects the teaching/learning process, the instructor will speak privately with the disruptive person. If unable to effect appropriate change and resolve the disruptive situation, the instructor has the option of filing a Disciplinary Action form with the College administration. 6 SYLLABUS CHANGES Occasionally, changes to the syllabus may be necessary. Students will be notified of any changes to the syllabus in writing. COMPUTER SERVICES ACCEPTABLE USE Access to computing resources is a privilege granted to all TCC faculty, staff, and students.
