CLASS TITLE: VETERINARIAN I
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is regulatory veterinarian work examining and testing animals to be processed into food products
for human consumption or examining and testing livestock or poultry for diseases.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
(Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any
one position in the class. The omission of specific statements does not preclude management from
assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.








Inspects and determines ante-mortem and post-mortem health conditions of animals to be
processed into food products.
Monitors the use of chemical additives used in meat products.
Reports any case of animal disease which may be communicable to humans.
Examines slaughtered livestock identified as abnormal or suspected of being diseased.
Examines poultry flocks for diseases.
Performs blood tests to check for disease.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles, techniques and equipment used in veterinary medicine.
Knowledge of animal diseases, their symptoms and treatment.
Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology and pathology.
Skill in the use of specialized veterinary equipment and materials used in animal testing.
Ability to conduct veterinary examinations and tests.
Ability to analyze and interpret the results of veterinary examinations and tests.
Ability to work independently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Eligibility for licensure as a Veterinarian by the State of Florida in accordance with Florida
Statute 474.
