CLASS TITLE: VETERINARIAN MANAGER - SES
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is veterinarian work managing a district regulatory program; directing diagnostic tests and
interpreting results; performing equine examinations for evidence of soring and conducting specialized
tests for evidence of unauthorized drugs; administering the drug detection program for racing animals;
coordinating drug administration research on racing animals among state agencies; or, directing a
public health veterinary epidemiology and/or zoonotic disease control program. The employee(s) in
the position(s) allocated to this class exercise(s) independent judgment in formulating or assisting in
the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration
and/or preparation and administration of budgets.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Performs autopsies on animals.
Conducts complex diagnostic tests and interprets results.
Selects and collects specimens from animals for further specific laboratory examinations.
Consults with veterinarians and animal owners to help them resolve diagnostic and disease
problems.
Examines equine at shows for evidence of soring and conducts specialized tests to determine
presence of unauthorized drugs.
Develops programs, standards, and administrative procedures related to zoonotic disease
identification, quarantine and corrective action.
Provides direction, consultation, and liaison with officials in federal, state and local public and
private health agencies regarding veterinary problems related to zoonotic disease prevention
and control programs.
Provides technical assistance in the epidemiologic investigation and identification of possible
sources of zoonotic diseases.

Provides consultation to private veterinarians in resolving urban and rural community public
health problems.
Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Eligibility for licensure as a Veterinarian by the State of Florida in accordance with Florida
Statute 474 and three years of professional experience as a veterinarian.
A master's degree from an accredited college or university in public health or board
certification in public health can substitute for one year of the required experience.
