Topics and References

Schedule of Topics
• See the handout and courseware pages

References
• NO text books are required as handouts will cover the details,
but additional reading is highly desirable
• USE the library and the Internet extensively
• If you feel that you must buy a text book
– consider it very carefully, as good text books are very expensive
– accept that you will need different textbooks for different aspects - do not
look for the one book that addresses all issues involved.
– be prepared to keep updating textbooks as improved communications
techniques become adopted by industry
– see if you can get your employer to buy it.

Comments on marking:
– Repeating back lecture material and handouts etc is worth about half of
the possible marks – to do better you need to show that you have
worked for it by using library, Internet, and other references
• Basically –
the more that you put in, the better you will achieve
