Grade Level: 9-12
Course Description: This is a laboratory-oriented course that will enable students to investigate the
Human Services Careers Cluster including: personal care services in food & nutrition, apparel, money
management, early-childhood development, family & community services and leadership.
Grading System: 40% Daily Classwork, 60% Tests/Labs/Projects
National Organization: FCCLA {Family, Career and Community Leaders of America} is an extension
of FCS. The organization focuses on student leadership that promotes family and community.
Supplies:
I.Daily supplies=Pen, paper, 1/2 “-3 ring binder or folder with brads.
II .4th/5th Six Weeks Project: Apparel Unit {Lab oriented-sewing project}
*SUPPLIES DUE BY: February 2, 2016
Students may choose one of the following Gym Bag Project sizes: [Cost: Under $10.00]
A.SMALL—{16”x9”}Supplies needed:
1. ½ of a yard of heavyweight fabric in 60” width
OR
¾ of a yard of heavyweight fabric in 45” width
2. ONE=16 inch zipper {metal or plastic} [NO INVISIBLE ZIPPERS].
3. ONE=small spool of thread {All-purpose thread only-NOT craft, button or quilting thread.}
4. 2 and ½ yards of webbing for straps. {does not stretch}
B.MEDIUM—{20”x11”} Supplies needed:
1. 1 yard of heavyweight fabric in 60” width
OR
1 and ½ yards of heavyweight fabric in 45” width
2. ONE=20 inch zipper [metal or plastic] {NO INVISIBLE ZIPPERS}
3. ONE=small spool of thread {All-purpose thread only-NOT craft, button or quilting thread.}
4. 3 yards of webbing for straps {does not stretch}
C.LARGE—{24”x12.5”} Supplies needed:
1. 1 and ½ yards of heavy weight fabric in 60” width
OR
2 and ¼ yards of heavy weight fabric in 45” width.
2. 1=24” zipper, heavy duty [metal or plastic] {NO INVISIBLE ZIPPERS}
3. 3 and ¼ yards of webbing for straps.{does not stretch}
4. ONE large spool of thread {All-purpose thread only-NOT craft, button or quilting thread.}

Semester II

{Basic Operations of Sewing Machine, Apply basic sewing
applications/repair, care of clothing, Elements/Principles
of Design, and Sew a Gym Bag}

6th6wks-[3 weeks] Money Management
[3 weeks] Money Management conti.
