MSC leadership was discussed with Bob Davis at the SA meetings in Piscataway in March and at the SAB meetings.
– It was agreed that it was beneficial to continue search for new leadership rather than SAB take over.
IASC is currently in the progress of completing elections.
New leadership is to be formally announced.
EPEAT – Participation in ANSI workshop on sustainable products on April 8 and 9.
– Wayne Rifer presented on EPEAT on the SDO panel,
– over 250 key stakeholders there providing advice on how to improve all efforts to create strong environmental performance based standards and increase green purchasing.

IEEE Standards Association would like Computer
Society Standards Activity Board to take over a draft standard project P1622 on Electronic Voting
Machines and finish the work to publication.
– The disbandment of SCC38 is on the IEEE-SA
Standards Board agenda for June 17.
Potential new standards effort within SAB (IASC,
S2SESC, SAB) with Open Web Application Security
Project (OWASP)
– “OWASP has developed a set of guidelines for developing secure web applications that is wellrespected in the web development and software security industries”.

SAB has appointed a new member-at-large,
Pierce M. Gibbs a software architect from the Boeing Company working on a Ph.D., Computer Science,
University of Alabama in Huntsville, expected
May 2010.
Pierce will be liaison from SAB to T&C and will also manage the SAB-TAB mapping matrix and the SAB handbook update on the WIKI.
He has also participated in CSDP exam refresh activities.
Still need SA Liaison

The new membership connection newsletter has offered SAB a useful venue for communicating to CS members on SAB standards issues.
So far SAB has been able to submit articles on
MSC leadership, invitation to join 1175.5 working group, the Gaming Technology
Standards workshop announcement and subsequent outcome, the IASC elections and
EASC.
This not only serves to publicize SAB Sponsor activities but also helps recruit new participants to standards activities.

The Computer Standards Column will have two point-counter-point articles appearing in consecutive standards columns.
One will be on Best Practices for Standards
Communities by Gerry Lane Director, Open
Source and Standards, at IBM.
Jonathan Zuck, President, Association for
Competitive Technology has committed to a counter-point article.
This deal’s with IBM’s concerns with respect to
ECMA and JTC1 on "opaque processes and poor decision making".

Center for Global Standards Analysis
Survey by June 30, 2009.
Donald E. Purcell, Chairman, Center for Global Standards Analysis, in a meeting with Mike Quear, Staff Director, U.S. House of
Representatives Committee on Science and Technology,
Subcommittee for Technology and Innovation, discussed issues raised in the presentation Globalization & Technology Standards:
The Case for Expanded Leadership at The Information &
Technology Information Foundation in January 2009.
Mike’s interest in the ITIF presentation raised several issues that have not been brought to his attention in recent years by the U.S.
Information, Communications and Technology Industry or any other industry.
Don offered to contact representatives in the United States private sector standards community to determine whether there are any standards issues that should be brought to the attention of the
House Subcommittee for Technology and Innovation.

Center for Global Standards Analysis
Survey by June 30, 2009
Center for Global Standards Analysis survey questions of private sector corporations, standards development organizations, universities and education associations:
– Given the impact of Globalization, is there a need to change current
United States policies for development of private sector technology standards; i.e., that the private sector will provide the leadership and resources for development of such standards, as necessary, and the government will play a supporting role? If so, what specific changes should be made to roles of the private and public sectors in developing such standards?
– Given increased attention to national standards education programs around the world, should the United States increase its support for
U.S. standards education programs in order to maintain or enhance its competitive position in the global marketplace? If so, what are your organization’s specific recommendations for increased standards education support in the private, public and academic sectors? Does your organization currently have an existing standards education program?
A Game Technology Standards Workshop was held in LA in February
The Wiki has been updated with workshop report and presentations.
Draft Policies and Procedures have been prepared and the next step to seek formal approval of draft
P&P's in SAB.
Leadership recruitment is in progress.
David Ross (Wargame Technology Lead, Decision
Support Systems Branch, AFRL/RISB, Rome Labs) invited to join this effort and to present at the SAB
Savannah meeting.
