Taiko Drumming
We have received the following information from Whitby Music
Centre: “I am writing to inform you of an exciting new project we are planning
to launch at Whitby Music Centre this summer. Starting in June we will be
offering weekly Taiko Drumming classes. The plan is to hold these classes after
school every Friday. Taiko Drumming is a Japanese style of drumming which as
well as involving the memorising of rhythmic patterns also requires the
performer to move in a certain way, use their voice and introduce other
elements in to their performances. To introduce Taiko Drumming to the town
we are holding a workshop on Saturday 18th May at Eskdale School from 12noon
to 2pm. Anyone can come along to this workshop (for no charge) to see what it
is all about. If they then feel that they would like to take this up they can enrol
for our weekly class. I would be grateful if you could advertise this to your
pupils and parents – the class is for adults too!”
Peat Rigg Residential Trip – Mon 20th – Fri 24th May
Y5 and 6 children are getting ready for their trip to Peat Rigg next
week. Children will come to school as the usual time dressed ready for
activities on arrival at Peat Rigg. Further information is included in the
parents’ booklet given out last Friday.
Please can you return the
consent form as soon as possible.

CAFOD
On Friday 17
th
between 9.45 and 11.15am, we will be holding a fun morning to raise money for CAFOD, (The
Catholic Agency for Overseas Development). Children from Class 2 are organising and running their own
stalls. These include a 10p, book and cake stall and a variety of fun games. Donations for these stalls would
be gratefully received. Parents are welcome to come and join in the fun.
Pentecost
On the afternoon of Friday 17
th
we will be celebrating “Pentecost”. We invite children to come to school
wearing red and yellow clothes – the colours that symbolise Pentecost. We will begin the celebrations with
a picnic at lunchtime and during the afternoon we will take part in various activities. As mentioned lunch will
be a picnic lunch of sandwiches, etc at the usual price unless your child wishes to bring a packed lunch.
