Wirral Council: Job Role Descriptor Job Role: Service: Reports to: No. of Subordinates: Leisure Membership and Marketing Apprentice Leisure Services Leisure Operations Manager 0 HR USE ONLY Job Role Ref: Job Family: Grade: BUS Business Support Band A JOB ROLE PURPOSE Complete the designated Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework and be an ambassador for Apprenticeships in Wirral, Undertake a range of duties to develop a portfolio of evidence to support the Apprenticeship. KEY TASKS 1. Learn and undertake a mentored approach across the leisure services estate. 2. Learn and assist in a range of tasks and marketing activities as instructed for training and experience purposes, including the work areas of sport and recreation, assisting with any other associated work deemed appropriate to support the apprentice role. 3. Continue to develop personally and professionally as part of the apprenticeship. 4. Assist to accomplish business development activities by researching and developing marketing opportunities and plans; implementing sales plans. 5. Assist to achieve marketing and sales operational objectives by contributing marketing and sales information and recommendations to relevant plans. 6. Learn and assist with marketing and sales objectives by planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating advertising, merchandising, and trade promotion programs; developing field sales action plans. 7. Assist in finding marketing opportunities by helping to identifying consumer requirements; defining market, competitor's share, and competitor's strengths and weaknesses; forecasting projected business. 8. Assist in collecting, analysing, and summarizing data and trends. Undertaking periodic benchmarking with other leisure providers 9. Update knowledge by participating in training opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organisations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Document1 Page 1 of 4 People Develop working relationships with other Council Staff, Councillors, community groups, users and other organisations. Assist in maintaining and promoting a customer-orientated service in accordance with the Council’s quality standards Develop a sound knowledge of health and safety, and being able to apply this in any given situation or circumstances to ensure that safe working, occupational health and safety codes of practice are adhered to at all times, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Financial Assist the Sport and Recreation/Marketing team in meeting marketing and sales financial objectives. Strategic Develop a thorough understanding of departmental practice, procedures and work instructions. Resources Assist in ensuring that Centres and services operate in accordance with effective care policies and the needs of consumers are being met as effectively as possible within the resources available and in accordance with the service specifications. Planning and Organising Manage personal workload, changing priorities and personal objectives. Learn and assist in the maintaining of all records ensuring they are complete and accurate. Decision Making Work as part of a team and under own initiative (where appropriately trained, qualified and competent) More complex issues may be escalated to line manager. EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Essential Criteria Qualifications: Educated to GCSE level or equivalent. Commitment to continuous professional development. Knowledge & Skills: Document1 Page 2 of 4 An understanding of Information Technology. Computer Literacy. Excellent communication skills. General awareness of equality and diversity. Experience: Experience of working effectively within a team. Interest or experience in marketing/sales work. Experience of dealing effectively with customers. Desirable Criteria Qualifications: IT qualification e.g. ECDL, RSA or CLAIT. Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge and Understanding of Equality and Diversity, and its application. Experience: Any practical experience and understanding of leisure services. Any practical experience of marketing and sales. Commitment to study part-time on day release/evenings. ADDITIONAL WORK ELEMENTS Commitment to complete the required competencies of the level 2 apprenticeship. Commitment to study part-time on day release/evenings. Ability to work flexible hours, with occasional evening, weekend and bank holiday work. Ability to travel throughout the Borough using private or public transport.
