TOPIC 2: APPLIED ICT IN THE CLASSROOM UnitEDU10711: Module 3 ICT Week 2 Workshop With Nicole Haggerty INTRODUCTION Visit the website for an overview of today’s session Reminders: Ask and post questions to the discussion board Access the study guide for the topics and activities for each week Ensure you watch the lecture and the assignment videos REVIEW: INTEGRATING ICT Lets Brainstorm! What makes up ICT? All integrated into everyday life Work Watching “tv” dating fitness shopping banking School Buying goods and services Wearable devices The Internet Blogs Hand held devices Apps Software Programming Hardware Podcasts Social media World Wide Web Wiki’s Video’s Music apps Cloud computing Hangouts THINK OF THE FOCUS WHEN INTEGRATING ICT…. Will the set task have more than one focus? Is it to develop technical skills? Is it being used as a reward, distraction, to busy students? When using ICT within the lesson is it enabling the students to learn the curriulum/subject ICT should enhance learning USING ICT WITHIN PDHPE – STAGE 4 Students use ICT as key tools for communicating, collaborating, creating content, seeking help, accessing information and analysing performance in the Health and Physical Education field. They use a range of ICT to analyse, measure and enhance movement performances and to access and critically evaluate health information, products and services. They also use ICT to develop personalised plans for nutrition and physical activity participation. Scootle is a good resource http://www.scootle.edu.au/ec/viewing/L21/index.html Another good resource https://www.humanrights.gov.au/sites/default/files/document/publicati on/AHRC_RightsEd_DisabilityHPE_Yr7_8.pdf INTEGRATING ICT - EXAMPLES Use Google maps to plot a route for a 2km fun run; use a screen shot and create a poster to advertise in the school using MS Publisher. Create a GLOG http://edu.glogster.com for your group/team/project Investigate fitness apps for example Strava , mcrun/ Use online training tools https://www.mcmillanrunning.com Create a blog fitness diary TOPIC 2- PART 1: WEB SEARCHING How to advanced search https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/246643 3?hl=en http://booleanblackbelt.com/2013/08/50-googlesearch-tips-tricks/ Define: altruistic Convert: 5km to miles Translate: English good morning to Italian Pronounce: epistemology TOPIC 2 – PART 2: A MODEL OF ICT INTEGRATION There are a number of approaches to integrating ICT within teaching. One of these models is the TPACK. Reading: Read the article by Matthew J. Koehler and Punya Mishra of Michigan State University. Try to relate this to your teaching area- draw your own diagram of your curriculum specialization with each of the diagram parts. The TPACK model is also mentioned in the Churchill Chapter 10 reading. TOPIC 2 – PART 2: A MODEL OF ICT INTEGRATION … CONTINUED What content knowledge do you require (in your curriculum area?) For example, knowledge of scientific terms, concepts in a science subject (refer to curriculum in order to see the content knowledge required). TOPIC 2 – PART 2: A MODEL OF ICT INTEGRATION … CONTINUED What important pedagogical knowledge (HOW to teach) exists in your curriculum area- are there practical elements and specific teaching ‘pedagogical’ approaches required? Practical tasks, pairs, use problem or inquiry based learning? Quizzes, flipped classroom models of teaching? This requires that you think about different models of pedagogy according to the students (age, stage and prior knowledge) and the appropriateness to the task- for example, if you are using a problem based approach you may use ‘teamwork’ or co-operative learning in which case the pedagogy is different to direct instruction. TOPIC 2 – PART 2: A MODEL OF ICT INTEGRATION … CONTINUED What technological knowledge is required in your curriculum area? Are there specific technological skills and concepts required to learn about your curriculum? Using certain technologies- hardware, software or other technological aspects for the curriculum Eg: learning how to use AutoCAD, Dreamweaver, spreadsheets, databases Identify the most appropriate - for example in PDHPE perhaps students have to learn to use specialist software for recording times, distances etc. a spreadsheet for analysis You may also be using a team pedagogy which means the teacher might incorporate a group Prezi, wiki or other presentation so that they will demonstrate these skills and technological skills as well. TOPIC 2 – PART 2: A MODEL OF ICT INTEGRATION … CONTINUED it really is about drawing the connections and making it enhance the learning versus just an ‘add-on’ when you map out a lesson or activity in this way it can help see the possibility for different pedagogy and technology TOPIC 2 – PART 3: ETHICAL USE OF INFORMATION undertake activities TOPIC 2 – PART 4: COPYRIGHT: Activity 2.4 Explore the All right to copy? website to help clarify your expectations for how and what you could teach students about this issue. What happens when a link doesn’t work? i) copy and paste link first ii) copy the first part of the link and then look for the page. iii) search for the string in the address Don’t forget to save any resources to your social bookmarking site (Diigo or other). TOPIC 2 - PART 5: WIKIS AND BLOGS Blogs https://www.blogger.com/home https://www.tumblr.com/dashboard https://wordpress.com Wiki https://scumodule3.wikispaces.com//Advanced%20Web%20Searching/Top ic%202%20Team%201/ Wikis are used for a range of purposes by organisations and individuals. Many teachers and educational institutions use wikis as a collaborative tool for communication purposes. Probably the best way of learning more about Wikis is to look at one. The most well known wiki site on the Web is Wikipedia, a free encyclopaedia created by a whole community of contributors with content that is continually evolving.
